Universe and lore
- Main article: Okarda'phaa-pattern plasma rifle
The Okarda'phaa-pattern plasma rifle is the primary service arm of the Covenant. In the UNSC it is known by the designation Type-25 Directed Energy Rifle. In Halo 2: Anniversary the weapon's model is that of the Plasma rifle from Halo: Reach.[2]

By default the Plasma Rifle, alongside two Plasma Grenades, comprise the second loadout option of every map in Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer. Post release other gametype options which no longer use the map defaults have gained popularity and were put into matchmaking.[citation needed]
