Template:Weapon Infobox The M247T Medium Machine Gun, formally Machine Gun, Caliber 7.62 mm, M247, is a variant of the M247 General Purpose Machine Gun produced by Misriah Armory and used by the UNSC Defense Force. It is primarily outfitted on the M808 Scorpion as an onboard anti-infantry weapon.[1]
Specifications
Design details
The M247T is one of the most common variants of the M247 General Purpose Machine Gun.[2] The M247T is fitted with a metal, retractable shield near the rear of its barrel to protect the user. It is coaxially mounted on numerous main battle tanks used by the UNSC Defense Force. The standard M808 Scorpion model uses a pintle-mounted M247T with a dedicated operator's compartment near the front of the vehicle.[3] On the M808B variant, the weapon is instead mounted coaxially to the right of the main gun turret.[4][5] The latter mounting configuration is shared with the M850 Grizzly.[6]
The machine gun is effective at eliminating infantry and protecting battle tanks from personnel threats. The M247T Medium Machine Gun is chambered for the ubiquitous M118 7.62x51mm FMJ AP cartridge.[3]
