The M6G2 Personal Defense Weapon System (PDWS), or "Magnum", is a variant in the M6 series of sidearms produced by Misriah Armory. It serves as a modification package of the UNSC Army's standard M6G magnum, intended for service within the UNSC Marine Corps.[2][3]

Overview

Design details

The M6G2 serves as a modification package for the original M6G pistol design[2] - though only primarily differs in the placement of its KFA-2 x2 scope, cosmetic finishes and weight.[3] The weapon is a semi-automatic, recoil-operated, magazine-fed, large-caliber handgun. It has a polymer handle, along with a titanium alloy body and an electroless nickel-plate finish, though can be alternately issued in black polymer and hard chrome finishes instead. The sidearm fires the M225 SAP-HE (Semi-Armor Piercing, High Explosive) rounds from an 8-round magazine at a velocity of 427 m/sec (1302.35 ft/sec). In addition, the weapon can be issued with a KFA-2 x2 optical, smart-linked scope.[1][4]

Overall, the M6G2 was designed for ruggedness and reliability, leading some operators to believe that it suffers in its weight and low magazine capacity.[1]

Usage

The M6G2 is a later model of the M6 series sidearms that was distributed to officers and vehicle/weapon crews[1] - though is nonetheless considered an ideal sidearm for a wide variety of troops.[4] Unlike the UNSC Army's preference of the standard M6G sidearm, the M6G2 was primarily developed for use within the UNSC Marine Corps.[3]

Operational history

The M6G2 was widely used alongside its regular M6G cousin throughout the Human-Covenant War. It saw particular usage by Marine forces stationed on Earth during the Battle for Earth, and later among the forces of UNSC Forward Unto Dawn during the Battle of Installation 00.[5] One such weapon was dual-wielded alongside an M90A shotgun by Miranda Keyes in her attempt to save Avery Johnson from his capture by the Prophet of Truth.[6]

In the post-war era, M6G2s were used by UNSC forces stationed on Draetheus V during the Battle of Draetheus V in 2555,[7] with one later used by Bostwick to kill Maya Sankar.[8]

The M6G2 was one of many weapons featured in Dr. Robert McLees' report Machines, Materiel and Munitions from the Human-Covenant Conflict, 2525 - Present.[1]

Notes

  1. ^ The Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) erroneously identifies the M6G2 as being 12.2 inches (31.1 cm) in length. Whether this is an intentional retcon of the original Bungie.net stat is unknown.
