The Suppressor is a weapon that was first introduced in Halo 4.

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Z-130 Suppressor

The Z-130 Suppressor is the primary service arm of the Prometheans, specifically utilized by Crawlers and Knights. Within the UNSC it is known by the designation Z-130 Directed Energy Automatic Weapon.

Gameplay[edit]

Counterparts[edit]

Campaign and Spartan Ops[edit]

The Suppressor is introduced during Forerunner, where packs of Crawlers and Knights were armed the weapon during the initial stages of the Promethean defense of the region. Within Promethean-dominated areas, the weapon will quickly become a mainstay, being able to deal with most small-scale Promethean entities, while being able to reliably recoup the massive amounts of ammo it loses with each fight.

Within most of Spartan Ops, loadouts from multiplayer are able to be utilized, allowing players to spawn with the Suppressor by default over needing to find it, although it functions identically otherwise. The Suppressor wasn't subject to the Weapon Tuning Update in Halo 4's campaign or Spartan Ops, thus, it features reduced damage and range. Like other weapons that can be customized, the Suppressor is able to use multiplayer skins in both campaign and Spartan Ops, although the former option is only available through Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Multiplayer[edit]

Within Halo 4's multiplayer component, the Suppressor is one of three automatic loadout options available to the player. In the Xbox 360 version of Halo 4 the Suppressor requires the player to reach Rank (Halo 4)Rank (Halo 4)Rank (Halo 4) before it can be purchased with 2 Spartan Points; the version of Halo 4 played through Halo: The Master Chief Collection allows the player to select the weapon by default for loadout-based gametypes.

Unlike the Assault Rifle or Storm Rifle, the Suppressor functions more akin to an SMG, boasting a high fire rate and the quickest kill potential of the automatic loadout options, while being offset by a dramatically lowered effective range and notable Bloom. The red reticle range of the Suppressor is approximately 23 meters, and like other automatics, it features no scoped potential to increase this range. The Suppressor is able to take down a player's shields in 10 rounds, killing in 6 more; 6 rounds and a melee will kill an enemy without an Overshield, while an enemy with a full Overshield will be able to take 28 rounds before it's fully removed. This makes the Suppressor unique, as it is one of the few weapons within Halo 4's loadout sandbox that can take down an Overshield, and then kill the opponent using it without requiring a reload, the other being the Storm Rifle. A Damage Boost will allow the Suppressor to strip shields in 5 rounds, killing unshielded opponents with 3 more; likewise an Overshield will only take 14 rounds to remove.

Running the Suppressor with a Speed Boost or the Dexterity support upgrade will shift its base reload from approximately 2 seconds to 1.2 seconds, and unlike most weapons, the Suppressor's reload is equally as long whether or not the player has run entirely out of ammo before swapping magazines.

The Suppressor also has a commendation for players to progress through in multiplayer, featuring seven tiers that require a cumulative 1,935 kills with the weapon to complete. Completing this commendation rewards XP per tier, and maxing this out along with all other Forerunner loadout-specific commendations will ultimately reward the player with the WARRIOR MATRIX armor skin and the "Hardlight" emblem.

Changes from Halo 4 to Weapon Tuning Update[edit]

  • The Suppressor's damage has been increased by 20%. The Suppressor now kills in three less rounds.
  • The Suppressor's auto-aim angle has been reduced.
  • The Suppressor's projectile spread has been decreased.

Skins[edit]

Main article: Weapon skins (Halo 4)

The Suppressor featured several skins that could be unlocked and utilized in Halo 4's Spartan Ops and multiplayer suite, with more being added in DLC packs released in 2013, and another being exclusive to a figure launched within McFarlane's second series of Halo 4-themed action figures. Upon Halo: The Master Chief Collection's launch in 2014, only the base series of skins for the Suppressor were available, with the DLC skins being added during Series 4: Reclaimer and Series 7: Elite in 2020 and 2021.

Production notes[edit]

The Suppressor's Shatter skin originally featured vibrant blue stripes lining the weapon. This was changed before release, with dark gray stripes replacing the blue, contrasting against the slate grey of the weapon beneath. However, the weapon's menu icon was not changed accordingly, and in the Xbox 360 version of Halo 4, the icon still uses the original blue color. Press kit images also use the original graphic for the skin. This issue was fixed in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
