Drop base
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Drop bases (sometimes stylised as drop-base) are a kind of deployable structure used by the Banished for establishing forward outposts on new worlds during expeditionary campaigns.[1][2] They consist of a modular[3] building with automated[2] thrusters attached, that allow the buildings to be released from an orbiting dreadnought and then deployed to the ground. During such an invasion they are deployed as a second wave after an initial deployment of scouting and intelligence units. Once the needs of the invasion have been established, drop bases are deployed concurrently with waves of drop pods and landing craft. The modular nature of the bases gives the Banished a great degree of flexibility in how they establish their outposts, and can be used in many different ways including as forges, armories, communications relays, and checkpoints.[3]
History[edit]
Drop bases were extensively used during the Banished occupation of Installation 07 in late December 2559. They were used to form a number of Forward Operating Bases on the ring's surface including Annex Ridge, the Armory of Reckoning, the Forge of Teash, Horn of Abolition, House of Reckoning, Ransom Keep, Redoubt of Sundering, and Riven Gate.[4]
In February 2560, the dreadnought Ghost of Barolon also used drop bases to establish a Banished foothold during their invasion of Suban.[5][6] The following month, the dreadnought Ghost of Kholo was used by the New Colonial Alliance to deploy drop bases onto Nysa as part of the Banished attack on the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science.[7][8]
