| “ | The Needler is an exotic Covenant weapon that fires shards of resonant crystal that home-in on living targets. If enough shards are embedded over a short time they will detonate in a massive 'supercombine' explosion. The shards move slowly, but at short range even a Spartan will have difficulty dodging the projectiles.[4] | ” |
The Posu'gelka-pattern shard launcher is a pattern of needler manufactured by Lodam Armory.[1] It was utilized by the Covenant during the Human-Covenant War[3] and the Banished during the post-Human-Covenant War era.[2]
Summary[edit]
Design details[edit]
- Main article: Needler
The Posu'gelka-pattern shard launcher is one of the many needler variants manufactured by the Covenant and inherited by its remnants.[1] This design pattern of needler notably features a display on the back of the upper chassis; the display features 18 dots and functions similarly to an ammo counter. However, rather than displaying the remaining number of shards that could be fired from the magazine, it displays the corresponding number of Subanese crystals still protruding from the upper cowling.[2]
Usage[edit]
This needler was fielded by Banished forces during the Battle for Zeta Halo in 2560. It was primarily used by Unggoy Conscripts and Ultras, Kig-Yar Freebooters, and Skirmishers.[2]
Variants[edit]
- Pinpoint Needler: A modified variant of the needler with a white chassis and an expanded magazine from 26 to 30,[2] along with an enhanced target acquisition ability.[5] It fires shards that have a lower "supercombine" requirement.[6]
- Vicious Needler: A variant manufactured by the Banished, featuring an alternate chassis and notably replacing the lower extended handguard with a sharply curved stock-mounted hilt blade.[7]

Notes[edit]
- ^ Given that Lodam Armory is a known manufacturer of the Needler, it is likely that the "Lodham Armory" manufacturer mentioned in Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) is a misprint.
