"The core of this ancient weapon holds a shackled mind. Improved Binary Rifle upgraded with additional magazine capacity."
— In-game description[5]

The Retina of the Mind's Eye is a special variant of the Z-750 Special Application Sniper Rifle, which appears in Halo 5: Guardians as an Ultra Rare REQ variant of the Binary Rifle. It retains the design and chassis of the standard Binary Rifle, except with the addition of orange stripes around the weapon.[3]

Background

The Retina of the Mind's Eye is a named variant of the Z-750 SASR that comes with additional magazine capacity. It is said to house a shackled ancilla at its core.[5]

In late 2558, the UNSC Infinity integrated the weapon into its own War Games simulations for use by SPARTAN-IVs.[3]

Gameplay

Halo 5: Guardians

The Retina of the Mind's Eye, just like the normal Binary Rifle, is an Ultra Rare Level 6 REQ that grants 150 REQ Points when sold. It operates exactly identically to the normal Binary Rifle, with the only real difference being its increased magazine size of four rounds for a maximum of 16 rounds (4 active + 12 reserve). These extra rounds give the weapon's user more chances to land kills on enemies while still having the same base performance as the normal Binary Rifle and make the weapon a stronger competitor to the SRS99-S5 AM sniper rifle.

Changes from the Z-750 Special Application Sniper Rifle

  • Increased magazine capacity of 4 rounds.
  • Maximum reserve round count increased to 12.
