Dragoons were a form of first-order Forerunner navy warships. Used from the earliest interstellar expansion by the Forerunners, dragoons were accompanied by vast entourages of weapon-ships and combat Sentinels.[1]

Dragoons were crewed by navarchs and a single princep, protected by significant numbers of heavily-armored Warrior-Servants scutarii and venatores, and were equipped with an long-range Auspex array scanning system, converging beam cannons and a torsion driver. Two dragoons combined with a battle station formed a combat trident, able to be deployed across the galaxy as a policing force for trivial faction or pocket empire matters. Combat tridents were expanded to ten dragoons within the Forerunner-Flood war.

A notable class of dragoon was the Sojourner-class dreadnought, also described as a prime dragoon for its pinnacle Forerunner technologies and effectiveness. It was introduced shortly before containment efforts against the Flood began, and continued to fight in all major engagments of the Flood war.
