The Akelus Workshop War Hammer (UNSC Type classification: Type-2 Energy Weapon/Hammer, T-2 EW/H), more commonly known as the gravity hammer, is a melee weapon developed by Akelus Workshop.[1] It was manufactured by the Sacred Promissory on High Charity following the Jiralhanae's absorption into the Covenant.[1][5]

Overview

Design details

The Akelus Workshop War Hammer is one of the many gravity hammers variants manufactured by the Covenant; the aesthetic and operational design of the Akelus Workshop gravity hammer is tailored for eponymous clan.[2][5] Unlike other known variants of the gravity hammer, the Akelus Workshop variant features a smaller handle attached to the main handle. As with other variants of the gravity hammer, the Akelus Workshop gravity hammer integrates the traditional Jilrahanae-bladed war hammer with repurposed Covenant gravity impellers.[1] In addition to the tungsten-alloy blade attached to the reverse side of the hammer, the hammerhead contains a short-range gravity drive,[2] allowing the wielder displace gravity at a targeted location—though conventional manipulation of the weapon typically eliminates the need for such extraordinary use.[5]

Usage

The gravity hammer served dual purposes as a weapon as well as a defining ceremonial vestige of clan leadership, and is thus typically wielded by a chieftain or other high-ranking members.[5] The Akelus Workshop variant was used by the Jiralhanae forces deployed in the Battle for Earth and Battle of Installation 00 in 2552.[4] Jiralhanae Chieftain Bracktanus showed a fondness of using the reverse-blade on his hammer during the Battle of Mombasa, killing Blademaster Vero 'Ahtulai with the blade and attempting to use the blade to kill the ODST Kojo Agu.[6][7] Following the Human-Covenant War, Jiralhanae Chieftains within Merg Vol's Covenant also employed the Akelus Workshop gravity hammer during the Battle of Draetheus V.[8]

Gameplay

Main article: Gravity hammer

The Akelus Workshop gravity hammer is featured in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST.

Trivia

Glitches

  • In Halo 3, the gravity hammer sometimes has no alternate third person animation for melee; in third-person, a player appears to swing the hammer with no explosive effect or splash effect. This only occurs with Spartan models. Sangheili models have the same animation they have if they melee someone with a flag. This has been fixed in Halo 3: ODST - the hammer now has a third person animation for melee.
  • In the Halo 3 campaign, Sangheili, including the Arbiter, will not use gravity hammers if they are armed with them, instead simply running next to enemies and remaining stationary.
