First Lieutenant

First Lieutenant, abbreviated to 1LT, is a junior commissioned officer rank of O-2 in the United Nations Space Command Unified Ground Command (UNICOM) rank structure. It is preceded by Second Lieutenant, and subordinate to a Captain.[1]

Marine Corps:
- Buckman — failed to protect the Orbital defense generators during the Fall of Reach in 2552; likely dead
- Jake Chapman — failed to protect the Orbital defense generators during the Fall of Reach in 2552; likely dead
- Audrey Lasky — active during the Insurrection; promoted to Colonel by 2526
- Cadmon Lasky — died during anti-insurgency operations on Andesia in 2526
- Melissa McKay — stationed aboard the UNSC Pillar of Autumn; died during the Battle of Installation 04 in 2552
- TJ Murphy — stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity; died during the Battle for Zeta Halo in 2560
- Nelly Hamm — head of 1st Platoon, Alpha Company of the 21st Space Assault Battalion during the Battle of Seoba in 2526; promoted to Captain
- Rolf Sorenson — stationed aboard the prowler UNSC Apocalypso in 2552
- Williams — commander of Tiger Company, died during Operation: METEORITE in July 2551[Note 1]
Army:
Although no named army officers are ranked as First Lieutenant in explicitly canon material, dozens of army troopers in Halo: Reach (which are each named after a Bungie developer) can spawn with this rank. The complete list can be found here.

- Richard Barclay — ONI officer; present for the interrogation of Subject 386 with Admiral Cole in 2530
- Preston Cole — held between 2494 and 2500 before being promoted to Commander
- Maher — executive officer of the cargo hauler UNSC Dark Was the Night; recused from Losing Hand in 2553

- ^ In Halo: Campaign Evolved, Williams is only ever referred to as either simply "Lieutenant" or "LT". Williams is an ODST, meaning that her rank should be derived from the UNICOM rank structure, which per Halo: Official Spartan Field Manual does not have a rank of Lieutenant, which is instead a Navy rank. The UNICOM structure does, however, have the ranks of Second and First Lieutenant, the latter of which is noted in the OSFM to be the position of a Company executive officer. In Campaign Evolved Williams is shown to be in command of Tiger Company, making it likely she held the rank of First Lieutenant.
