| So we've all heard about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and how ti's going to make a black hole that destroys the world. Well on the channel we discussed this and I think none of us can worry :P

| The basis that it will destroy the world has to do with its function. It takes two sub-atomic particles, smaller than atom, called neutrons and shoots them together at just under the speed of light. When they collide they temporarily occupy the same location in space, their density supposedly making a mini blackhole. Those in defense say the blackhole would be too small and not last long enough. Well on #halopedia we figured out just how long this theoretical black hole will last.

| The speed of light is 299,792,458 meters ''per second.'' Because there are two neutrons colliding near the speed of light, their combined speed, like in a head on car crash, is double the speed of light, 599,584,916 meters per second. A neutron has a diameter of 1.64 x 10<sup>-27</sup> (0.00000000000000000000000000164) meters.

| So this blackhole (they haven't even proved it will even make a blackhole) would last how long it takes for something going double the speed of light to travel the distance that is the diameter of a neutron. We did the math and we got 0.000000000000000000983 seconds (9.83 x 10<sup>-19</sup>).

| The tests are performed in a vacuum, there are no air molecules floating around. So in that tiny frame of time, if there was a blackhole, it would not be very strong. Not to mention it would be tiny. To get an idea of how big the blackhole would be relative to the machines, it would be like the former planet Pluto, eating Jupiter in 0.000000000000000000983 seconds. That doesn't make much sense now does it?

| Then of course, neutrons are made up of tiny little particles called quarks. Now if two things collide going really really fast, they get blown apart. So after that 0.000000000000000000983 seconds is up, this theoretical black hole would get completely blown apart into six quarks (every neutron has three, two neutrons).
