While this was discussed, [[Bloodstar Flotilla|a flotilla]] of five Covenant [[intrusion corvette]]s arrived in-system and set course for Seoba. Ascot and Nyeto rushed to their ships to prepare them and the rest of the task force for battle, hoping to use the Black Daggers to board and destroy the vessels from the inside.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS11|HSS|Chapter=11}} Along with Nyeto, Colonel Crowther boarded the ''Ghost Song'' to coordinate the Black Daggers' efforts.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS16}} When Ascot's {{UNSCShip|Starry Night}} was shot down and crashed into the ice quarry, Nyeto frantically transmitted from the prowler asking if the rest of the task force knew the ''Starry Night''{{'}}s status. However, Crowther cut him off, telling him to proceed as planned and observe [[Protocol Echo]], effectively reminding him of the unknown extent of Covenant eavesdropping technology. The UNSC Ghost Song is a Razor-class prowler that was part of the UNSC Navy's Task Force Yama during Operation: SILENT STORM in 2526. Part of Ghost Flight, the vessel served as Lieutenant Commander Hector Nyeto's flagship.[3] It was among the three prowlers successfully stolen by Nyeto when he revealed his secret insurrectionist ties.[4]

Operational history

Flagship of Ghost Flight

The UNSC Ghost Song was built to be part of Ghost Flight, a flight of four Razor-class prowlers within the Office of Naval Intelligence's Prowler Corps.[1] At some point during the Insurrection, Lieutenant Commander Hector Nyeto became the commander of the Ghost Song and all of Ghost Flight, slowly replacing the crew of each vessel with personnel sympathetic to the insurrectionist cause.[2][4] When Vice Admirals Preston Cole and Michael Stanforth initiated Operation: SILENT STORM in March 2526, the flight was selected to join Task Force Yama for the duration of the mission. The task force soon left for Seoba, a moon of Biko, where they would wait for the Covenant fleet arrive.[5]

ICE DANCE

On March 18, 2526, the Ghost Song approached an ice quarry on Seoba with a drop bay packed with the full First Platoon of the Black Daggers, Spartan-II John-117, and Staff Sergeant Avery Johnson. Initially, this mission had been formulated to train the ODSTs and Spartans for rapid deployment. However, insurrectionist activity had been detected in the quarry. By the order of Colonel Marmon Crowther, the prowlers continued their deployment runs with the intent to take the quarry for themselves as they prepared to ambush the Covenant, who were believed to be targeting Biko next.[3]

As the first four ODSTs dove through the jump hatch, they were instantly torn to shreds by the armor-piercing rounds spewed from multiple M41 Vulcan emplacements. The next team of four ODSTs did not hesitate as they jumped next, and were similarly turned to bloody ribbons. While this was discussed, a flotilla of five Covenant intrusion corvettes arrived in-system and set course for Seoba. Ascot and Nyeto rushed to their ships to prepare them and the rest of the task force for battle, hoping to use the Black Daggers to board and destroy the vessels from the inside.[7] Along with Nyeto, Colonel Crowther boarded the Ghost Song to coordinate the Black Daggers' efforts.[2] When Ascot's UNSC Starry Night was shot down and crashed into the ice quarry, Nyeto frantically transmitted from the prowler asking if the rest of the task force knew the Starry Night's status. However, Crowther cut him off, telling him to proceed as planned and observe Protocol Echo, effectively reminding him of the unknown extent of Covenant eavesdropping technology. Still, Crowther would try to find available Black Dagger units to secure the Starry Night, but could not find any that would be able to do so without risking another prowler.
