Orpheus is a Halo 3 Meta-Game Achievement. It is unlocked when the player earns 15,000 points while playing the meta-game on Cortana. This Achievement gives 10 Gamerpoints to the player.

It is represented by a blue circle with a fist and lightning bolts. Playing Cortana on Heroic with the Catch, Famine, Fog and Tough Luck Skulls in any combination should guarantee the player at least 20,000 points by the levels end, if the player doesn't die that often. It is also important that you have a shotgun, heavy weapon, brute shot, melee weapons, carbine or battle rifle; and also some stick grenades. Shotguns, heavy weapons, brute shots and melee weapons are for breaking up flood when you kill them, carbines and Battle Rifles to kill those annoying ranger forms and stick grenades to blow up carrier forms along with their infection forms inside. A good thing about the level is that plasma grenades stick to the 'flood walls', the yellow-orange flood like walls. Therefore you can kill opponents on the wall with a grenade without a direct stick (however, a stick earns you more points)
The par score for  is 15,000 points in Halo 3 and 17,000 points in The Master Chief Collection; the difference is due to the fact that the two games feature different campaign scoring formulae. Though the achievement can theoretically be unlocked on any difficulty, more points are awarded in campaign scoring when playing on higher difficulties.

In the original game, players must achieve the par score individually, even when playing cooperatively; in The Master Chief Collection cooperative players share a single score, potentially making the achievement much easier.

Headshots can be obtained by firing a headshot-capable weapon, such as the Battle Rifle, at the feeder tendrils on a Flood combat form's chest; this kills the Pod infector controlling the body.

Note: When trying to get the campaign scoring achievements for any level containing the Flood, kill as many Combat Forms as possible with weapons that do not destroy the Combat Form's body. Once the area is clear, back up and let the Pod infectors resurrect the fallen Flood. Kill all the Combat Forms again to gain more points. If no Pod infectors remain and there are blister-like sacs on the wall near you, pop them by shooting or meleeing them to release a small amount of infectors.

*The name Orpheus was ancient Greek; in Greece, Orpheus went into Hades to find his wife Eurydice and bring her back. In the Halo 3 level Cortana, the Master Chief (symbolizing Orpheus) goes into High Charity (symbolizing Hades, after it was infested by the Flood) to find Cortana (symbolizing Eurydice). Unfortunately for Orpheus, Eurydice never made it out of the underworld.

Orpheus
H3 Achievement Orpheus.png Orpheus.jpg
10 Gamerscore icon taken from Xbox.com. Originally a single block colour (with the two circles both being white and the 'G' a transparent cutout), but modified by myself to display nicely on dark *and* light themes, and to be reminiscent of the pre-Xbox One gamerscore icon.

Orpheus is an achievement in Halo 3 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It is unlocked by beating the par score on the level Cortana. The achievement is worth 10 Gamerscore. It is represented by a blue circle with a fist and lightning bolts in it in the original game, and a screenshot of High Ground in the collection.

Methods[edit]

On Normal, activate the Tough Luck, Catch, Fog, and Famine Skulls because for the Tough Luck and Catch, they don't dodge or throw grenades. It would be a good idea to use a Shotgun/Energy Sword in combination with a Battle Rifle/Covenant Carbine. Also, try to get as many medals as you can—for example, grenade sticks or headshots.

Trivia[edit]

The name Orpheus is most likely a reference to the Greek myth of Orpheus, a man who entered the underworld to rescue his wife, just as Master Chief entered the "underworld" of the Flood-infested High Charity to rescue Cortana.
