- — A master gunnery sergeant to John-117.[1]
Korea,[2] officially United Korea[3] and occasionally referred to by the former South Korean endonym, Hanguk (한국),[4] is a country on the Korean Peninsula of Asia on Earth.[2]
History[edit]
The Korean Peninsula was previously divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. A few hundred years prior to the Human-Covenant War, a long sought after treaty united the two. After the creation of the United Nations Space Command, many different bases—military and otherwise—were established in the country. These became sites of critical importance for the testing of ordnance and the training of officers, especially during and after the Covenant War.[2]
Geography[edit]

Economy and society[edit]
Due in part to its government's strong emphasis on education, United Korea is known as a technological powerhouse. The country is home to many significant UNSC facilities that specialize in training, weapons testing, and MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor development.[2]
Production notes[edit]
- The M6G2 magnum featured in Halo 3 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary has Hangul engraved on the top of the barrel, 일곱, which translates to 7.
- On the pistol, the Hangul is upside-down and mirrored compared to its actual form.
- In Halo 5: Guardians, one of the AI constructs who pledged allegiance to the Created is from an Office of Naval Intelligence weapons research facility in a location called New Gangwon.
- New Gangwon may either be a reconstitution of the historical Kangwon Province after the two halves of Korea reunited prior to the 26th century, or an extraterrestrial human colony named after this province.
- The cancelled Halo Online map Sky bridge was set inside a building under construction in the city of Seongnam.
