Role-playing game |
Fable II is a role-playing game developed by Lionhead and published by Microsoft Game Studios. At launch in 2008, the game featured a crossover with Halo in the form of several items that could be acquired in-game by installing the Otherworldly Bonus DLC - included in the game's Limited Collector's Edition and later released as a standalone download on Xbox LIVE. The Halo items in Fable II included "Hal's Outfit" and "Hal's Sword" - the Master Chief's MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor and energy sword restyled to suit Fable's Medieval fantasy theme.
The presence of Master Chief in Fable was first hinted-at during Lionhead's announcement of the game's Limited Collectors' Edition. Included in the press release was a concept image titled Fable2_MasterChief.jpg, which first revealed the existence of Halo-themed armour in the game.[1][2]
Fable II's first expansion, Knothole Island, also included "Hal's Rifle", based on the assault rifle from Halo 3.
Otherworldly Bonus[edit]
The Otherworldly Bonus pack was a piece of DLC first released as an exclusive bonus in the Fable II Limited Collector's Edition. The DLC includes the armour and sword of "Hal", a legendary figure sometimes referred to as "the Master Chief". Once installed, the items can be found in a chest in the Guild Cave near the Cullis Gate. Opening the chest also unlocks an in-game title for the player, "Master Chief".
The in-game description for the armour and weapon say the following:
| “ | Long ago, when Albion was still under the rule of the Old Kingdom, a rift in space opened a portal between dimensions. Through the rift stepped a warrior of immense power, clad in green armour and carrying a crystal sword. Though he never revealed his real name, he was known to all as 'Hal'. | ” |
The character of Hal is based on Halo's Master Chief, with his sword a stylised depiction of a Covenant energy sword.
On February 24, 2014, Fable II's limited-edition content (including the Otherworldly pack) was released as a standalone download on the Xbox LIVE marketplace for $1.99.[3] However, the closure of Xbox 360 online services in mid-2024 means that the content can no longer be installed.
Knothole Island[edit]
"Hal's Rifle", based on Halo's MA5C assault rifle, can be acquired in Fable II's first expansion, Knothole Island.[4]
