The IRC Team
Our IRC Team is composed of respected and responsible Halopedians who frequent the IRC.

Channel Operators (Ops, listed above) can kick and ban disruptive users, and high-level ops can modify other users' access levels.

Voices have the ability to talk when the channel is moderated. Currently, there are no voices as the channel is rarely (if ever) moderated.

The IRC Team are essentially the leaders of #halopedia. When you have a problem or question regarding the channel, a Team member will help you any way he or she can.

Can I become part of the Team?
Team members are selected on an as-needed basis only. As Halopedia grows and the channel becomes more active, more ops may be needed to assist in its operation. Team positions can be filled via simply asking one of our high-level ops (as listed above).

Rules and Regulations
In addition to these regulations, all freenode guidelines must be abided by.

Nick
EITHER you are using your Halopedia username, OR, if you are using another nick, which MUST be a necessary abbreviation, your whois says who you are AND you are identified to services.
:Exception: If you aren't a member of Halopedia, but are still in the channel, you're okay.

Flooding
While you can say as many lines of text in a row as you want, any deliberate flooding of five lines or more without reason, or any spamming of the same message five times or more, will result in being kicked from the channel.

In addition, users who "join flood" (join, leave, and then re-join the channel repeatedly) will be banned from the channel for a period of time determined by the op issuing the ban.

Caps
The use of caps lock is frowned upon. Using caps to write a whole entry will result in a channel op giving a warning. Persistent use of caps after a warning will result in a kick. Further breaking of this rule may result in a short ban, depending on severity.

:Exception: Important Halopedia or Wikia messages (e.g. server being down).

Inappropriate content
Cursing is not permitted. Talking about harming any biotic entity is not allowed. In addition, personal attacks are not allowed and will result in immediate removal from the channel.  Harassment is not tolerated, sexual harassment even less so and could earn you a ban without warning.

Ops have a wide discretion relating to the issuing of warnings and bans which infringe on this rule. The content of messages will greatly impact on the severity of the punishment.

Off-topic discussion
The IRC channel isn't for debate about politics or religion, it is for discussion about Halo and Halopedia matters.  Socialization is acceptable, but priority is to be given to discussions on Halo and Halopedia matters - please be considerate and pause your conversations when these subjects are brought up.

Halopedia is also not for fanon, The Halo Fanon Wiki has its own IRC channel for that: #halo-fanon.

Consequences
Typically, the following hierarchy will apply to infringements on the above regulations (with the exception of specifically implied consequences).

*First offense: Warning
*Second offense: Kick
*Third offense: One day ban

Further offenses will result in an extended ban, at the discretion of the op administering the ban.

Recent Changes Channel
Manticore has set up an IRC channel which reports Halopedia's  recent changes via a bot. It is registered as #halopedia-edits.

This channel cannot be accessed via <span class="plainlinks>Wikia's CGI:IRC, and should be accessed through a client such as Freenode's Java</span> instead.

Due to the large number of changes it reports, the channel is moderated and users are unable to talk there. Any inquiries should be directed to Manticore.

Rules  • Appeals  • Staff  • Roles  • Channels

The Halopedia Discord server allows Halopedians to communicate with each other via instant messaging and voice chat. A registered nickname is required to access the channel.

Joining the server

  • Download and install Discord (optional)
  • Click "Connect" to the right (or click here)
  • Follow all on-screen instructions:
    • If you are new to Discord, you will be prompted to create a username with an email address and password.
    • If you are a returning user, click "accept invite."

Rules

Moderators use their discretion when applying these rules, and understanding of the rules depends on moderator conception of the rules, and particular exceptions may be granted by specific moderator approval. These rules and regulations, however, should be followed strictly by users. Any breach of these rules and regulations may lead to punishment by a moderator.

Upon accessing the server, it is expected that all users have reviewed the rules and understand the consequences for breaking them.

Nickname

Users are required to use their wiki username or a variation thereof. Anyone attempting to impersonate another will be immediately kicked and if they continue, will be subsequently banned. This rule will not apply to users without a wiki account.

Bots

The only bots allowed on the server will be those controlled or approved by administrators. Any unapproved bot on the channel will be immediately banned and depending on the circumstance, the user may be punished.

Rules

General guideline: Please be civil and courteous. Treat others in a way you'd like to be treated!
  1. Personal attacks/Harassment will not be tolerated.
    1. This means racism, homophobia, sexism, sexual harassment, and etc.
  2. Offensive content is not permitted on the Discord, and posting such content will result in a warning, followed by a kick or ban on repeated violations. Offensive content includes, but is not limited to, discriminatory slurs, images or iconography associated with hate groups (historical or contemporary), or links to webpages containing any of the above.
    1. Offensive content in your username, nickname or profile picture is not permitted. You will be given a chance to change this content without penalty, though refusal or repeated instances will result in a kick or ban.
  3. No tagging 343i employees unless its related to a serious issue or they ask for it.
  4. Profanity is allowed, so long as it is not excessive nor directed at any user.
  5. Sexual content, such as pornography, innuendos, and etc. are not permitted at all.
  6. Roleplaying on the channel is allowed, so long as it does not become excessive and is stopped when requested.
  7. Violation of personal privacy is not permitted. This includes revealing personal information about users (e.g. real name, location, age, gender, etc) and violating confidentiality on particular issues (such as issues asked to be kept confidential by other users or administrators).
  8. Linking to external sources, such as websites, which violate the aforementioned rules, is also not permitted. Notably, publicly linking to websites such as Facebook or MySpace that violate personal privacy, is not permitted without prior consent from the user whose privacy will be violated.
    1. Posting invite links to other Discord servers is not permitted.
  9. Spoilers relating to recently released media are not permitted outside the "spoilers" channel and will have a general one month limit from its release.
    1. An example would be keeping spoilers for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in the "spoilers" channel till one month has passed.
    2. Halo spoilers, due to the purpose of a wiki is to be up to date fast, Halo Spoilers may be had in the "wiki-discussion" also, with a one month time limit also before other channels can discuss it.
  10. Trolling or general irritation or disruption of other users is not permitted. This often includes, but is not limited to; excessive usage of capital letters, punctuation marks, and deliberate or in-deliberate distortions of the English language (such as "133t speak").
  11. Spamming is considered the posting of unneeded, repetitive, or meaningless links, images, comments, or anything else. Spam may take up one or more lines; it is at the discretion of the moderator or administrator to deem what is spam.
  12. Language - Individuals are expected to use English while talking on the channel. Any other language being used is not permitted.
  13. Controversial topics, like politics, religion, illegal activities, and etc., should not be discussed
  14. Discord =/= wiki: An individuals' actions on the wiki do not affect the individuals' rights/status in the server, and vice versa.

Moderators have a wide discretion relating to the issuing of warnings and bans which infringe on this rule. The content of messages will greatly impact on the severity of the punishment. In certain particular cases, there may be exceptions.

Consequences

Typically, the following hierarchy will apply to infringements on the above regulations (with the exception of specifically implied consequences).

  • First offense: Warning
  • Second offense: Kick
  • Third offense: One day ban

Further offenses will result in an extended ban, at the discretion of the mod administering the ban. Pending on the severity of the offense steps in the hierarchy may be skipped, or a lifetime ban might be placed.

Discord citation policy

Discord can not be cited on Halopedia. Any attempts will be removed as they can not be verified.

Appealing

Users may appeal admin/mod decisions at any time. Generally appeals should follow the below steps:

  1. First off, through private message or wiki means, appeal the ban to the mod/admin in question.
  2. If you disagree with the mod/admin's decision, appeal the decision to another admin listed here.
  3. If you disagree with the decision of the neutral admin, appeal to the server contact, CIA391, who will make the final decision at his discretion or discuss with the other admins present. You may contact CIA391 via DM or by talk page.

If you appeal in a manner that's considered confrontational, antagonistic, uncivil, or malicious, the appeal will be ignored and additional punishment may be given.

Server staff

The Discord server has a staff of users based upon their wiki ranks. The permissions assigned to these roles are detailed here.

  • Contact - Owns the server and has access to all settings.
  • Admin - Halopedia administrators
