Targeted Nanoparticle Therapy and Repair

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Targeted Nanoparticle Therapy and Repair (TNTR), also known as med bots[1] and nano-meds,[2] is a form of UNSC nanotechnology used for medical treatment.[1]

History[edit]

In 2557, after Ram Chalva was rescued from Gek 'Lhar, TNTR was used to treat his injuries, although they were extensive enough that Ram still healing in June.[3]

In August, Rion Forge was nearly killed by a Needler round on Binterall.[4] The Ace of Spades crew treated her with med bots[5] and she was back on her feet nine days later, although still sore.[6]

In August 2558, after being rescued by the Ace of Spades from Erebus VII, Sergeant Yurman was injected with a full suite of nano-meds and sensors by Doctor Mallory and Rion to treat her severe injuries from the Eiyaa-Mahtuhaa. The nanites would absorb any toxins that were present and ensure that anything that needed attention would get it. By the time that the ship reached a mining outpost, Yurman had been stabilized despite being nearly dead when she was found.[2]

During the Battle for Zeta Halo, the UNSC field hospital at Lifeworker Central,[1] outfitted using equipment salvaged from a working med bay on a downed Mulsanne-class light frigate,[7] recovered a suite of TNTR.

On June 6, 2560, Dr. Shoff injected combat medic Lucas Browning, who had suffered serious injuries from Banished torture, with a complete series of TNTR programmed to repair and facilitate healing to his internal injuries. When Browning had to leave with John-117 before he could completely recover, Shoff gave him a stimulant to keep Browning alert and adjusted the TNTR for on-the-go repair, but he would require constant monitoring. Joyeuse agreed to link with the TNTR and monitor Browning's vitals.[1]

When Browning was stabbed by Jega 'Rdomnai,[8] several hundred med bots were destroyed, causing the remaining med bots to compensate and subsequently overload. After they rebooted, Joy reconfigured their primary directive to converge on the wound, debride the burnt tissue and stimulate clotting aided by biofoam applied by the Master Chief. The med bots mitigated immediate hemorrhages by sealing vascular breaches and Joy initiated a program to stabilize shock and cardiac function, but Browning's wounds were fatal and all that these measures could do was buy him thirty to forty minutes.[9] As Browning neared death, Joy directed every med bot to his heart and brain function to buy time for the Master Chief to take Browning out of the Silent Auditorium to die in peace.[10] These measures successfully bought the Master Chief enough time to escape with Browning, who died outside the structure on a grassy knoll.[11]
