In the campaign of Halo 5: Guardians, the Frag Grenade is part of the starting loadout of every playable Spartan with the sole exception of Vale. Most Spartans start with two Frag Grenades, although Fred and Locke start with three instead. Players can also restock on Frag Grenades by finding them on the ground or in weapon caches in most missions. AI-controlled Spartans except for Vale can also drop them upon death if the Catch skull is on.

Multiplayer and Warzone[edit]

In the multiplayer component of Halo 5: Guardians, most Arena and Warzone modes start players with two Frag Grenades. The Frag Grenade Expert armor mod in Warzone allows players to carry up to three Frag Grenades while also respawning with the same amount. There is also a commendation for players to progress through in multiplayer, featuring five tiers that require a total of 210 kills (5 + 15 + 30 + 55 + 105) to complete. Each completed tier awards XP, with the third and fifth tiers additionally awarding a Commendation Reward Pack and Frag Grenade Pack, respectively.
