The Binary Rifle is a weapon featured in Halo 5: Guardians.
Universe and lore[edit]
- Main article: Z-750 binary rifle
In Halo 5: Guardians, the binary rifle used is the Z-750 binary rifle, an energy channel weapon used by the Prometheans that fires ionized particle beams.
Gameplay[edit]
As with all other Forerunner weapons returning from Halo 4, the Binary Rifle has been reworked from its previous iteration. Instead of firing a single shot that deals extreme damage, it now fires a short pulse of energy. Although it retains the same level of raw power provided that all hits land, it can no longer kill a target the instant it is fired, requiring the beam to hit most of the time in order to get a kill. The Binary Rifle also reloads slightly faster and can now be reliably hipfired as it lacks the hipfire spread penalty from Halo 4. Furthermore, it can hold a maximum of eight rounds in reserve instead of six.

Campaign[edit]
The Binary Rifle appears in several missions in the campaign of Halo 5: Guardians. Its first appearance is in the first campaign mission, Osiris, where it can be found inside a Forerunner weapon rack to the right of the entrance to the Forerunner temple near the end of the mission. It later appears in Unconfirmed, Reunion, Genesis, The Breaking, and Guardians, where it is wielded by Soldier Snipers.
The Binary Rifle does incredible damage to most enemies, being capable of instantly killing anything up to a Soldier with a single round, especially if the beam hits a weakspot, such as the head. Tougher targets like Soldier Officers may require a second round or more, depending on difficulty settings and whether or not the entirety of the beam hits. However, like in Halo 4, it has a restrictively small magazine, being required to reload after two shots. Moreover, enemy Soldier Snipers wielding Binary Rifles are incredibly dangerous as the Binary Rifle deals unrevivable damage to a Spartan and disintegrates them if they are killed with it. On Heroic and Legendary difficulty, they should be treated as top-priority targets and taken out immediately in order to avoid unnecessary casualties due to the immense amount of damage their Binary Rifles' beams deal.
Multiplayer and Warzone[edit]

In the multiplayer of Halo 5: Guardians, the Binary Rifle can be used in Warzone if its namesake REQ card is consumed. It has an Ultra Rare rarity, requires
energy to use, and grants
150 when sold. As in the campaign, Soldier Snipers can be encountered with Binary Rifles, although it is also possible to encounter Jackal Rangers using Binary Rifles during Warzone Firefight matches on the map Skirmish at Darkstar.
Players can progress through a commendation that requires them to score a total of 210 kills with the Binary Rifle across five tiers (5 + 15 + 30 + 55 + 105). Upon completion of each tier, XP is awarded, with the third and fifth tiers additionally awarding a Commendation Reward Pack and Binary Rifle Pack, respectively.
