The Lightrifle is a Promethean utility weapon that appears in Halo 5: Guardians.
Universe and lore[edit]
- Main article: Z-250 lightrifle
In Halo 5: Guardians, the lightrifle used is the Z-250 lightrifle and is the primary service arm of the Prometheans, firing single shots that become wider and more powerful when scoped.
Gameplay[edit]
As with all other Forerunner weapons returning from Halo 4, the Lightrifle (capitalized in-game as LightRifle) has been reworked from its previous rendition. It now fires single shots like the Halo 4 iteration did when scoped in, although the Halo 5: Guardians iteration of the LightRifle fires a wider and more powerful beam when scoped in. This increases ease of engaging distant or moving targets, although this comes at a cost of a lower rate of fire. Its magazine capacity has been reduced from 36 to 12 as well.
Counterparts[edit]
Campaign[edit]
The LightRifle appears in every Halo 5: Guardians campaign mission where Prometheans are fought. It is wielded by Soldiers when attacking from longer ranges, although their LightRifles' beams travel more slowly compared to those fired by players.

Consuming the LightRifle's REQ card in Warzone allows the player to use the weapon, provided they have at least
energy. The card yields
100 when sold.
Variants[edit]
Barbed Lance[edit]
- Main article: Barbed Lance
- "Even the most cunning stratagems and deadly artifice of Forerunner Warrior-Servants could not stop the voracious Flood. Improved LightRifle with an extended magazine and faster rate of fire.[1]"
The Barbed Lance is an Ultra Rare REQ variant of the LightRifle which operates identically to a regular LightRifle, albeit with an extended 16-round magazine and a higher rate of fire, making it a more useful offensive weapon overall. It can be used in Warzone by consuming its REQ card, which requires
energy and yields
150 when sold.[1]
Dying Star[edit]
- Main article: Dying Star
- "The appearance of highly mobile and mutable Flood Pure Forms quickly led to Promethean countermeasures. Advanced LightRifle that fires adhesive pulsewave explosives; as few as three nearby explosions will prove fatal to even a shielded Spartan.[2]"
The Dying Star is a Legendary REQ variant of the LightRifle which has been modified to fire adhesive pulsewave explosives. These explosives stick to both infantry and vehicles and explode after 0.9 seconds. As few as three nearby explosions deal enough damage to kill even a fully-shielded Spartan. Unlike the other L
