Combat team

A combat team is a type of UNSC Marine Corps unit, used in particular by the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

Composition

Combat teams are formed of 10-14 operators, seemingly roughly analogous to the squads found in the Army and Marine Corps. They are organised at the company level, with six to eight combat teams comprising each company though this can vary from company to company. Each combat team in the company specialises in a particular mission-set, in which they are expected to excel. Despite this, they are also expected to be able to adapt to fit any given situation.

History

Combat teams were present on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn when it arrived at Installation 04, leading to several combat teams aboard the ship being assigned to ship-board defense duty. During the later Battle of Earth, Miranda Keyes called on any available combat teams within Crow's Nest to defend the barracks.

The combat teams operated by the survivors from UNSC Infinity's destruction on Installation 07 forgo standard combat team organisation, instead including only four troopers each, more akin to a fireteam.

While never explicitly described as a combat team, the ODST deployment from UNSC Hidden Point during the battle of Netherop closely matched the described composition of a combat team. It was split into two smaller squads, First and Second.
