A baffler was a Forerunner-designed camouflage technique employing geometric distortions.
History[edit]
A baffler was used to hide the center of Djamonkin Crater, which housed the Didact's Cryptum during his first exile.[1] Despite being considered outdated at the time, the device was demonstrated to be effective enough to hide the area from a Miner ship[2] and an entire Forerunner fleet.[3]
100,000 years later, the Office of Naval Intelligence integrated the baffler technology in their Prowlers to enhance the vessels' stealth capabilities.[4] Baffler technology was also replicated in the FOTUS-class Mjolnir.[5]
Forerunner security protocol deactivated any local baffler technology when a Forerunner terminal was accessed to ensure proper authorization access. An energy spike created by this could render active camouflage useless.[6]
In 2555, Doctor Henry Lamb suggested that bafflers, dazzlers and other concealment systems were being used by 000 Tragic Solitude to hide his abduction of Olympia Vale.[7]
After the UNSC Infinity crashed on Zeta Halo, baffler systems shrouded the crash site.[8]
