Speed Boost is a power-up enhancement featured in Halo 4, Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 5: Guardians which drastically increases a player's movement.[1] In addition to increasing a player's walk and run speed, it also increases the speed with which the player reloads and switches weapons, along with increasing their field of view. However, it does not increase the player's rate of fire, and the speed increase does not transfer to vehicles the player is driving. While in use, the player is awarded a visual effect which gives off a blue full-body glowing effect and leaves trails as the player moves.[1] This effect also appears on the player's HUD, and actually increases the player's ability to see in dark conditions. In Warzone players can stack up to four speed boosts, enabling them to run at 300% normal speed.[2]

Gameplay[edit]

Halo 4[edit]

  • Buffs the player's movement speed.
    • If the player is using a M805X thruster pack, their thrust distance and gravity will be changed, enabling further bursts of movement.
  • Weapon handling speed is increased, including reloading.
  • Speed boost must be manually picked up.
  • The player's field of view is increased dramatically.

Changes from Halo 4 to Halo 2: Anniversary[edit]

  • The speed boost is changed from blue to green.
  • Speed boost only buffs player speed, not weapon handling.
  • Speed boost power-up can be passively walked over like prior Halo titles leading up to Halo 4.
  • Field of view remains the same.
  • The visual effect of the speed boost on the player's HUD is much paler.

Changes from Halo 2: Anniversary to Halo 5: Guardians[edit]

  • The speed boost is changed from green to purple-white.
  • HUD icon is added, indicating time left to use the power-up.
  • Speed boosts can be stacked to increase the power-up's effect.
  • Speed boost must be equipped manually. Animation leaves the player open to attack, now.
  • The player is engulfed in a ghostly-white glow, akin to an overshield, compared to previous title's movement effects.
