The Phaeton, a Promethean weapon-ship

Weapon-ships were small remotely-controlled craft deployed from Forerunner Fortress-class vessels. They operated in automated phalanx formations and could be controlled at a ratio of a million ships per warrior.[1] One of the smallest classes of weapon-ships were the Z-1800 Phaeton.[2]
