Design details[edit]

The Mutilator is an over-and-under double-barreled shotgun that fires superheated spike pellets. It has two firing modes; the standard mode fires one of two shells individually, while the second fires both shells together. The user changes between the two fire modes by pulling back the foregrip; the fire modes are indicated by the display above the grip.[2] The weapon's barrel is integrated with the gravitic impellers of a Halbashi Workshop gravity hammer, allowing the user to swing the weapon like a gravity hammer to unleash a concussive force upon impact.[4][5]

Usage[edit]

"May this weapon serve you well in the battles to come. May its power bring fear to your enemies and fell a thousand legions to bring you glory. And may it never be set down—for as long as you draw breath, its task shall never be done."
Chieftain Atticus to his crew aboard the Ghost of Kholo.[1]

When the Banished launched an assault on the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science on Nysa in March 2560, the Bloodstars' Spartan Ilsa Zane was equipped with a Mutilator,[6] which was an offering from Chieftain Atticus to crewmembers of Ghost of Kholo.[1]

In-game information[edit]

Halo Infinite[edit]

The Mutilator was added to Halo Infinite in Operation Last Stand,[7] the first event in the game's 2025 Summer Update.[8] It is a power weapon in the Shotgun weapon class. It has two fire modes. In the first, it fires one barrel per shot. In the second, it fires both at the same time, doing more damage but needing to be reloaded instantly.

By trading weapons as an ally, the player can give the Mutilator to any non-playable characters capable of using shotguns — including marines, Elites, and Brutes — though the NPCs cannot fire the Mutilator.

Production notes[edit]

In its initial release, the Armory Infinitum entry for the Mutilator accredited its creation to Akelus Workshop. It was updated on the same day to replace the mention of Akelus Workshop with Halbashi Workshop.[1]
