Eternal Lasting
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Eternal Lasting[1] is the final story in Halo: Fractures: Extraordinary Tales from the Halo Canon. Written by Jeremy Patenaude[2], the story takes place after the events shown in Promises to Keep and reveals the fates of Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting and Chant-to-Green.
In the original print of Fractures the story went untitled and credited only to "343 Industries" at the end of the collection. It was retroactively titled in a 2026 Canon Fodder article.[1]

The short opens on a father watching his son work on a small farm. The father describes the homestead and the planet. It nears sundown, and the father's wife joins him in watching the twin suns pass behind a gas giant. The boy joins the two, and asks of the father a story of the Halo Array. The father vaguely recounts a story of a great warrior who captures the commander, his old enemy, of a Halo ring, bringing him to justice - for a time (referring to background events in Halo: Primordium). When his wife and child go to sleep, plagued by memories of the Halos, he travels to his old ship on top of a mountain - the Audacity - and enters. He looks at his old armor, where it is revealed by a bearing in the armor that he is Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting.
Bornstellar concludes that, although the armor and weapons could have kept him alive indefinitely, he chooses not to wear them, instead living his days out naturally. All Forerunners have made this decision - to live their lives out naturally, separated from one another so that they, as a species, would die out.

Production notes[edit]
Prior to the layoffs at Halo Studios in 2026, Franchise Writer Alex Wakeford expressed interest in producing a Forerunner Saga omnibus collection—similar to Halo: The Master Chief Omnibus—in which Eternal Lasting, alongside Promises to Keep, would have been included as the end to Bornstellar's story.[1]
