The Fuel Rod Gun is only sporadically encountered throughout Campaign Evolved.
Changes from Combat Evolved to Campaign Evolved
- The Fuel Rod Gun now no longer detonates when it is dropped, meaning is now useable in the main campaign.
- The Fuel Rod Gun now performs similarly to the original unusable campaign variant in Combat Evolved (or the variants featured in Halo 2 onwards), rather than the PC port's multiplayer variant. It features a reloadable magazine of five rounds, rather than the overheating/battery mechanic of the PC port's variant.
- Where the campaign variant of the Fuel Rod Gun in Combat Evolved had a four-round magazine, the Campaign Evolved variant has the five-round magazine established from Halo 2 onward.
- The visual design is now reminiscent of the Korva-pattern from Halo: Reach (albeit with some stylistic modifications), rather than the original game's Zasqi-pattern.
- The Fuel Rod Gun now leaves a small pool of burning incendiary gel on the floor around where it impacts, though the effect is visual-only and does not cause damage.
