The Plasma Pistol is built for short-range combat and vehicle countering. It supports both semi-automatic and charged firing modes. Standard shots deal consistent damage, while charged shots track targets and can fully deplete most energy shields, and stun vehicles to a stop.[2]

The Plasma Pistol is a weapon featured in Halo: Campaign Evolved. It is one of the most common weapons throughout the game. Information on the Plasma Pistol found in the original Halo: Combat Evolved (and its Anniversary remaster) can be found here.

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Eos'Mak-pattern plasma pistol

In the original Combat Evolved, the Plasma Pistol featured is the Eos'Mak-pattern plasma pistol, the standard sidearm of the Covenant and known to the UNSC as the Type-25 Directed Energy Pistol.[3]

Campaign[edit]

Campaign Evolved's Plasma Pistol has a function generally similar to the Plasma Pistol featured from Halo 3 onward, with a rapid semi-automatic primary fire and a charged shot that tracks enemies and has an EMP effect. However, the charged shot deals high damage, more similarly to the original Combat Evolved variant. The Plasma Pistol's primary fire remains very effective against unshielded enemies even with slightly lower damage compared to the original. Its charged shot strips energy shielding instantly, but can also kill weaker enemies in a single shot due to its higher impact damage, with the additional benefit of disabling vehicles. The Plasma Pistol's main downside is that it will overheat in sustained fire or after firing a charged shot, becoming unusable for a short duration as the weapon vents its excess heat.[1]

Like all weapons in Campaign Evolved, the Plasma Pistol has a newly added scope, enabling a 1.4x magnification zoom. When using this sight, the player does not descope upon taking damage. This increases the red reticle range of the weapon, thus allows charged shots to track enemies from longer distances.[1]

The Plasma Pistol is the best weapon to enable the player to board enemy vehicles. At the same time, it is effective against most enemies on foot including Hunters when shooting their exposed backs, as well as Sentinels, which are killed by a single charged shot when unshielded. Charged shots disintegrate Human and Elite Combat Forms, rendering them unable to be reanimated by infection forms. The classic "noob combo" can be used with this iteration of the Plasma Pistol: firing a charged shot to disable an Elite's energy shielding, then swapping to a weapon with a headshot damage bonus to quickly make a kill. The Battle Rifle is the most effective weapon to use in this combo due to its short draw time.[1]

The Plasma Pistol is a starting weapon on Two Betrayals, and is extremely common in every level due to its widespread use by Grunts and Jackals. Elites will occasionally use this weapon, as will Flood-infected Elites. As with other battery-fed weapons, the player cannot pick up reserve ammo for the Plasma Pistol; the weapon must be swapped for another one with a higher remaining battery percentage.
