Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Gadulo-pattern needle rifle

The Gadulo-pattern needle rifle is a marksman rifle used by soldiers in the Covenant military. It fires shards of Blamite. Unlike most needle weaponry the projectiles do not track targets, though if three such crystal shards embed in one target they detonate.

The Needle Rifle is a new weapon in Halo: Campaign Evolved, included for use in the game's Operation: METEORITE prequel levels alongside the Campaign Remix mode. It performs similarly to the Needle Rifle originally in Halo: Reach, acting as a medium-ranged burst-fire headshot-capable utility weapon.[1] The weapon is predominantly only featured in the prequel levels, though does show up in the main campaign in the level Keyes.

As in Reach, if three of the weapon's projectiles impact an unshielded enemy, they explode. This makes the weapon a great choice for use against Flood and Brute enemies.

Production notes[edit]

The Needle Rifle in Halo: Campaign Evolved was concepted by Halo Studios Lead Concept Artist Ajay Agrawal[3] and modelled by Senior Hard Surface Artist Michael Frank.[4]
