The Battle of Kan Pakko was an engagement fought between the Forerunners and the Flood in the final years of the Forerunner-Flood war. It was one the first battles in which the Flood used reactivated Precursor artifacts against the Forerunners.[1]

Overview[edit]

The Forerunner fleet inserted itself in an orbit over the gas giant known as Kan Pakko, in order to use the planet as a shield against a thousand-strong Flood fleet. The Flood's forces—infested Forerunner ships of varying classes—blockaded the Forerunner fleet, denying them all possible orbital solutions for leaving the system. The Forerunner forces realized they could not access slipspace; several ships tried and were lost, with three of them echoing from failed transits with significant causal anomalies while others were plunged into deficient alternate realities. The Forerunners soon noted that these anomalies were the result of suppression fields of enormous power, generated by local Precursor star roads, which were plentiful in the system and were now reactivating and shaping into previously-unseen configurations. The fields disabled the Forerunner ships' weapons and shields, rendering them completely helpless against the hundreds of approaching Flood-infected ships. A log of the Forerunner fleet noted that unless they were able to find a way to escape, they would sacrifice themselves within the next several hours to reduce the Flood's numbers to their best ability.[1]
