History[edit]

Colonization[edit]

In 2373, humanity arrived in the Kennewick system and established Ballast as an Inner Colony world under the jurisdiction of the Unified Earth Government.[1]

Human-Covenant War[edit]

Prior to 2552 but during the Human-Covenant War, an operation on Ballast took place, where the ODST Gretchen Ketola lost her leg when she stepped an Insurrectionist landmine.[5]

In 2550,[1] Ballast was attacked by the Covenant. During the course of the battle, a rumor that the UNSC Defense Force succeeded in defeating the Covenant began circulating, although many thought it possible that the rumor was created by the Office of Naval Intelligence to raise morale.[2] Regardless of the rumors, Ballast did indeed escape being glassed[1] and the colony still intact during the Battle for Earth in late 2552, as evidenced by active transports from the colony to the Quito Space Tether.[6]

Post-war[edit]

After the war, as part of Project ALOHA-19, an Acheron Security AI memory matrix containment and display module was shipped from Havenwinter on Ballast to UNSC Transit Dock L22 on Luna, and from there to an Outpost Discovery on Earth.[7]

Government and society[edit]

Economy[edit]

The car manufacturing company Kabord was originally based out of Vallejo, a city on the world,[8]

Trivia[edit]

On the Halo 3 multiplayer map Orbital, one of the incoming transports is from Ballast.
