From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Large Potential Canonicity Issue

It has recently occured to me that a number of articles associated with the events depicted in Halo Wars now have no official source to confirm their canonicity, among these are: Keiichi-047, Unidentified SPARTAN-II (Harvest), Ustaf 'Nbekee, 'Crolunee, Helena Roman.

The issue is that the website that originally contained the gameplay extracts involving these characters, the "Official Halo Wars Website" was recently disbanded. Instead the link goes to a Halo Waypoint page in regards to Halo Wars the game, with all traces of the original website deleted.

So my issue is, do these articles still warrant as canon? Or does the removal of the promotional website and subsequent lack of proof for their canonicity warrant these articles as void? SomethingDifferent 05:10, 25 November 2010 (EST)

These articles would still be canon (depending on what has been confirmed so far), but it would be hard for others to accept it as so since the citations no longer exist. Thus, we would need to apply the burden of proof test in the future if one ever questions the credibility of the articles. The burden of proof would have to rely on the discussion pages (if exist) or simply by words of those who have edited it. This has happened before in the case of Iris and AdjutantReflex, two articles that would remain sourceless to some point. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 05:24, 25 November 2010 (EST)
Understood, thank you. SomethingDifferent 05:29, 25 November 2010 (EST)

Logo overlap

Having the Chief icon on top of the page content interferes with things like selecting article titles (for copying and pasting into links). A quick fix is to give #p-logo a z-index of 1 or lower. DavidJCobb 13:40, 10 December 2010 (EST)

Editing userpages

Could the coding please be altered to allow me to edit other people's userpages/userwikis/user-whatever? A lot of wanted pages are being linked from there.-- Forerunner 14:04, 20 December 2010 (EST)

The "present" in the Halo universe is after the Human-Covenant War. The fact that you're fighting the Covenant (and more importantly Sangheili) shows that it takes place before the Great Schism - October 2552. As the game shows the date at the start of each level, you'd know that the game takes place between July 23 2552 and August 30 2552. Halo: Combat Evolved is September 19-21 2552, Halo 2 is between October 20 and November 17, while Halo 3 continues from there until March 3.-- Forerunner 18:48, 1 January 2011 (EST)

hey, any online admin with some free time plese contact me

i have a problem because someome has deleted a page i created telling me its content was fake. i can have proofs it wasn't and i was asking if i can re-up it and maybe make it undeletable to avoid this guy to do it again. thank you

First please sign your name on a talk page. Now to explain. I was not the person who deleted it. I am the person who added the deletion template. The reason for this is actually rather simple. The first one is, as the admin who deleted it said, is that you wrote no references. I checked before adding the template. There is no reference of this glitch. The game was released in 2004. Even if it's an extremely rare glitch someone would obviously speak of it. The other problem is the spelling and grammar. You added no capitals or punctuations. You could have spelled checked it. You pretty much posted a meaningless page. How high are the chances for one out of millions of people to experience this glitch? Steahl Senka 17:30, 9 January 2011 (EST)

I am sorry for my errors. I didn't know my name was not signed, i am AleX6547 There is a reference about it and it's a youtube video called "Halo Tricks of Trade Episode 3: Friendly Covenant". This is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ819VrR5-A Ignore that he wrote accidentally sacred icon instead of quarantine zone, because in the video he actually is in the quarantine zone level to get the sputnik skull. The problem is that the glitch was found just by this guy, who had only 543 people watching his video. You can easly try this out after seen how on the video, it is funny. I have some videos of the glitch i made with fraps but i show only the glitch while is performed already. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

I noticed i can't go to a new line after a dot. If i will be allowed to re-up the page i will use capitals.

Okay. What troubles me is if he modded the computer. So we will needed more references to this. Only one source is bad. You should talk to an admin who is often on like Forerunner. I apologize that you are hurt. But from what I can tell your new here. New to Wikis. If I hurt your feelings its because I get annoyed rather quickly. So please go to Forerunner and ask him what to do from here. As soon you can find two sources I am certain the admins here will allow you to re-create the page. Also for future references(to find admins) go here. Again I apologize if I insulted you in any matter. I just don't have good people skills. Steahl Senka 15:22, 10 January 2011 (EST)

thank you for your time and for your help, i am not hurt anymore. I am also sorry if i looked arrogant. I will contact this admin and see what will he tell me. thank you AleX6547

Your welcome dude, and don't worry. I didn't find you act arrogantly. Good luck :) Steahl Senka(Chant) 20:47, 12 January 2011 (EST)

i have also discovered another glitch that doesn't have references online. i don't know about odst multiplayer, but it works on any halo game that allows you to dual weapons. i tried it on halo 2 and halo 3 and it works. (not remember for sure about halo 2) it allows you to have 2 same weapons together, one on your hand and one in your pocket. do you think it's cool enough to be uploaded? AleX6547

That's Triple Wielding. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 10:56, 14 January 2011 (EST)

wow! ok that one is too simple to be undiscovered... :) thank you AleX6547

...Question

As a new user, what are some tasks I can do to help the wiki? --Stye 13:57, 12 January 2011 (EST)

Anything, everything ranging from fixing grammar, summarising content, etc. Just remember not to make multiple edits. For more, see our Help section. :) - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 15:17, 12 January 2011 (EST)

Removing a did you know.

I recently noticed a do you know thing on the side bar saying that Diadect and the libirian were the only two known forerruners.

Ovibolsly, this is not the case. can this be removed, and can ohters be checked?

Also, can and admin tell me if I can go ahead and replace the assination page with my revised draft of it: http://www.halopedian.com/User:Jabberwockxeno/Draft signxb.jpg 13:25, 15 January 2011 (EST)

You can access the Did You Know box via Template:DYK.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 13:29, 15 January 2011 (EST)

Ship's Complement

Regarding a ships complement, in most articles, this include the vehicles each is carrying. A ships Complement is the crew alone. Writing it this way, you could take a modern landing ship and claim the vehicles it is transporting to be part of its complement, which would not be the case. Upload file link

While I do prefer the new Halopedia default skin over the other ones, I think there's one important feature missing. That is, the sidebar link to the "upload file" page. I've found myself using it a lot more often than, say, "Top users", and a direct link to it would be far quicker than always having to navigate through the special pages. Since the links are currently neatly arranged in two columns of three, maybe the "top users" one could be moved to the "community" menu and replaced with the upload file shortcut? --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 14:29, 25 January 2011 (EST)

I would suggest replacing the "What links here" with Upload, since the feature is also available via More Actions drop down menu. — subtank 14:34, 25 January 2011 (EST)
I like these suggestions and I'm going with it. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 15:06, 25 January 2011 (EST)
Since you're here, any chance fixing the <poll> tags? — subtank 15:17, 25 January 2011 (EST)
The poll extensions are really no good. The best we can do is embed PollDaddy polls. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 15:54, 25 January 2011 (EST)

Featured Quotes

I'm trying to get the quote thing to be monthly as it should be. The problem here is that an admin has to remember to update it each month. Is it possible to put it on an automatic timer? For a while, we had a date thing where it would show a number in the Halo font and say if something relevant happened today. If we could just make a big list that a program would cycle through, it would be much more efficient. We could just stick it full of quotes at the beginning of the year and maybe vote on the quotes for next year. Is this at all possible? --Dragonclaws(talk) 04:34, 28 January 2011 (EST)

B.C.E. vs. BCE

Currently, our timeline articles use the format "B.C.E." over the simpler and commonly used "BCE". If I'm not mistaken, it's more common these days to omit the full stops altogether when there's no chance of confusion. Simpler is always better in article titles, and taking them off would also make it easier to link each year article. I don't know if there's something meaningful behind this or if it's just something somebody started and no one bothered to change. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 18:25, 2 February 2011 (EST)

I agree - there isn't a word that you can get "BCE" confused with. We should only use the periods in acronyms when it is homophonous with another word - Resident Evil does the same thing with the "S.T.A.R.S." organisation in comparison to the "BSAA" and "UBCS". I think that we should have a formalised acronym policy in our MoS.-- Forerunner 19:34, 2 February 2011 (EST)

Automated site message thingy

Just wondering if it's possible for Halopedia to have a randomised site message similar to the ones in halo.bungie.org. Would be a lovely feature. i.e. "Halopedia: Halo Encyclopaedia 2.0" or "Halopedia: You can't has recon" — subtank 13:44, 3 February 2011 (EST)

Heh, I've been thinking the same thing for a while. I didn't suggest it because I assumed it would be too difficult under Wikia, but now that we're independent, it seems like something we could implement. Perhaps a forum post for suggestions? I have a few. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 20:08, 3 February 2011 (EST)
Heh. I asked on the #wikia IRC channel a couple years back - they seemed pretty cool with the idea. I haven't actually tried it, though. If it is possible, you'd need <choose>, like the "Did you know" section.-- Forerunner 11:59, 6 February 2011 (EST)

We could do this, but the title wouldn't change on every refresh for logged-out users due to caching. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:52, 6 February 2011 (EST)

inactive users' pages

What should we do with the pages of inactive users? A lot of them include links to non-existent articles (which we cannot de-link), unnecessary redirect pages; files (images and videos) and userboxes. As an example, WRAITH left in October of last year with a user-subpage full of unneeded images. I suggest that we delete the pages of users inactive for a certain amount of time. If they return and request their pages back, then we'll be happy to oblige.-- Forerunner 16:00, 23 February 2011 (EST)

What the hell? Halo 4/MC continues?

Well, you know what happens when your bored as crap in the middle of the night while you're on the computer. You say, "HEY! I'm ganna go be a nuwb and look up some halo stuff," well thats what I did and interestingly enough, I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkkhhYBa6hk

now go ahead and skip to 4min if you don't want to see the ending of halo 3 again and watch an interview of the halo makers. You may be suprised to what you may hear- skeptical? Yea maybe, but you won't be sorry for looking at this link. I'm not one to bullshit and you can just ask Smoke. .

~tia (VGC)

Thanks for that, but really, it says nothing new. Basically, they're teasing that it's a probable impossibility, always preferable to an improbable possibility. In other words, it's basically a "we can neither confirm nor deny" situation. I'm pretty sure we're going to get a Halo 4 eventually, but there's plenty of other stories that can be told, and some that probably should be told before the Master Chief's return, if they're going to be told at all. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 03:10, 4 April 2011 (EDT)
Even so. I think it's a video worth watching. I wish there were more interviews on youtube about a halo 4 or even on Bungie's site. It's kind of silly you say that it's a tease because of course it is! They leave you thinking but then go back and confirm that we'll see Master Chief again. Things are getting interesting.

"Halopedia"

While the Halo wiki at wikia has changed their name to "Halo Nation", the site name is still "Halopedia, powered by wikia".

I'm not sure what exactly needs to be changed; judging by the name of the project space, this may be something that they would need to convince wikia to change directly (which, judging by their reactions to the various wikis moving away, they might not agree to). The only thing I could find directly on the site was the welcome message log, which is not the actual source of the problem, but will need to be changed too.12.53.10.226 01:28, 9 April 2011 (EDT)

That comes up if you put in "Halopedia" on a search engine (eg. Google) and yes, it is something that needs changing. Its an apparent caching error (according to wikia) although its also speculated that wikia might have tampered with it to prevent losing their own traffic [sic] (since they were also against the move). At the moment we can't identify the source of the issue either, but we're looking into it. We'll have the welcome-message-log changed soon, thanks for reporting! - File:Major.png|20 Nìcmávr (Tálk) 06:12, 9 April 2011 (EDT)

So they're stealing people from going on here? And why did we leave again?--Blahmarrow 17:14, 11 April 2011 (EDT)

They aren't "stealing". This is background stuff, which takes time to get to changing. Much of the code probably still refers to "Halopedia", which needs to be changed to the current "Halo Nation". -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 03:21, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

So I shouldn't go on a troll spree on them? And thanks for answering.--Blahmarrow 19:52, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

Even if they were "stealing" it from us, I would heavily discourage trolling them. It would just reflect badly on us, and create hostility between the communities. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 21:07, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

HUGE Revelation in regards to John-117

To those who have the "Conversations from the Universe" from the Halo 2 limited edition, the second last page (A letter from Cassandra to "117" addresses the Spartan as John. This is in the third paragraph, first line. Therefore the first time we heard his name was NOT at the end of Halo 3. SomethingDifferent 01:52, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

  • [EDIT] "We miss you, John." That's the quote from Cassandra. SomethingDifferent 01:54, 12 April 2011 (EDT)
Actually, the first time his name was revealed was in The Fall of Reach, where he's referred to as John throughout. So neither Halo 3 or the Conversations from the Universe booklet really revealed anything. Halo 3 was only the first time his name was heard in-game if that's what you meant. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:04, 12 April 2011 (EDT)

Infobox conflict usage suggestion

example reason
Infobox military conflict
|name=Fall of Reach
|side1=Unified Earth Government
|side2=Covenant Empire
}}
In this example, we simply have the factions' respective states. We could use this example if multiple military organizations took part (eg. UNSC Marine Corps) - take note, especially in the example, that it wasn't just the UNSC that took part as a UEG combatant.
Infobox military conflict
|name=Battle of Viperidae
|side1=UNSC Navy<br/>Insurrectionist Navy
|side2=Covenant Navy

Here, the combatants' organizations are more specific, and can be identified without a long list.

-- Forerunner 16:02, 5 May 2011 (EDT)

And this is?--Blahmarrow 10:40, 8 May 2011 (EDT)

Something you neither know or care about - I am proposing an official method in the usage of the combatants part of the Military conflict infobox. You can sort'a tell it is due to the section title and my discriptions ;) -- Forerunner 17:13, 8 May 2011 (EDT)

I know not much of info boxes, so I inquire. As you have answered, I can understand, and as a result, agree to your proposal.--Blahmarrow 17:24, 9 May 2011 (EDT)

The first one seems to make more sense, considering that's how Wikipedia and most encyclopedic sources format their infoboxes. However, I'd still say it's ok to list UNSC as the "main" human belligerent in battles of the Human-Covenant War, since it has ultimate control over humanity's other governing bodies during the war.--Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 08:29, 11 May 2011 (EDT)

Logical enough.--Blahmarrow 17:26, 13 May 2011 (EDT)

First appearance

In the infobox, where it says first seen, is that for first Real Life appearance, or first canacal appearance? Vegerot (talk) 07:45, 11 May 2011 (EDT)

I'm not sure what it was originally meant for, but in most articles it's seemingly used to refer to first in-universe appearance. I don't think this field is even relevant anymore, considering how most Forerunner units are seen in Cryptum anyway. Unless we want to limit it to "first seen by the contemporary human civilization". --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 08:29, 11 May 2011 (EDT)
It's deprecated. Should have removed it when I updated the infobox.— subtank 09:12, 11 May 2011 (EDT)
