Render
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Renders are ceremonial positions in Jiralhanae society, used as part of funeral rites for the dead. In pre-Immolation Jiralhanae tradition, a Render's job was to unceremoniously cut a given dead Jiralhanae into three parts; the hand, head, and body. This division represented the three moons of the homeworld Doisac, Soirapt, Teash, and Warial. However, the practice had practical benefit due to the prevalence of carrion scavenger fauna indegenous to Doisac; cutting the corpses to pieces and leaving them to nature.[1]
Prior to the Great Immolation, warfare and martial culture was so great in Jiralhanae society that huge numbers of Renders were required to keep up with the constant flow of corpses, eventually leading them to form their own roaming clans.[1]
After the Jiralhanae accession into the Covenant in 2492, this funerary practice was outlawed and replaced (particularly during the Human-Covenant War) with a ritual in which dead Jiralhanae would have symbols representing their moons carved into their body before being incinerated or tossed out of the airlock on a starship. This replacement practice has continued among the Banished in wartime, including its use at the funeral of Escharum in 2560, where the Sangheili Jega 'Rdomnai acted as the Render for the late Escharum.[1]
