Mag training round
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Mag training rounds are a kind of non-lethal ammunition used by the United Nations Space Command. They are used alongside battle training uniforms (BTUs) for the purposes of physical training. When a mag round is fired at a BTU, the BTU's armour plating locks up, immobilising the operator and simulating a wound from a live round. Unlike live ammunition, they are unable to penetrate hard cover.[1]
In July 2551, mag training rounds were used by the Force Reconnaissance Marines of the "Hungry Buzzards" and Spartan John-117 in a training exercise to test the then-in development Mark I (H) exoskeleton. They were used by the Spartan against the exoskeletons and the marines' BTUs, while the exoskeletons' heavy weapons in turn equipped similar ammunition. During the exercise the marines exploited the rounds' lack of overpenetration to get the jump on the Spartan.[1]
Weapons used in the training exercise with mag rounds included:[1]
- MA5B assault rifle (7.62x51mm)
- M6D magnum (12.7x40mm)
- Unidentified miniguns
