Erebus VII Forerunner complex

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The Erebus VII Forerunner complex was an extensive Forerunner complex on the planet Erebus VII.

Design[edit]

The complex was extensive, situated beneath layers of soil, rock and stealth technology.[1] Inside, was an immense circular chamber of steel-colored alloy that was smooth as satin and polished to a high sheen. Glyphs and long geometric lines were carved into the walls and floors. A pair of monoliths at least eight meters tall, rectangular in shape and angled at the top were in the chamber. Small glyphs ran up the sides, and straight inlaid lines framed a central symbol of a circle broken open at the bottom with an octagon at its center and two offset parallel lines that cut through the picture.[2] In the center of the chamber was a deep circular void with a terminal to one side of the monoliths. The void contained the Precept, a giant Monitor.[3]

A long open conduit shaft just above floor level led to the surface.[2]

The main entrance was set into a rock face and automatically dissolved upon the approach of a Reclaimer.[3]

Like the way station on New Carthage,[4] the complex was shielded from sensors by a dazzler.[1]

History[edit]

While studying the planet, ONI found the complex. They set up shop and took all of the usual precautions, but were attacked and nearly wiped out by the Eiyaa-Mahtuhaa.[5]

In 2558, when Rion Forge and 343 Guilty Spark placed the Librarian's coordinate key into Installation 07's Cartographer, the Cartographer displayed a star map pointing to a location on New Carthage before ejecting the key and a second component which Rion combined together. A slipspace portal was suddenly opened[6] by the Precept[3] using a personal slipspace unit[7] and pulled Rion through, although Spark managed to keep hold of the coordinate key.[6]

Rion awakened in the complex where she found human remains and was stalked by the Eiyaa-Mahtuhaa. Rion quickly fled to the planet's surface,[2] eventually linking up with the ONI survivors.[5] The Ace of Spades arrived at the planet after the coordinate key pointed to Erebus VII and rescued the survivors, transporting them to a mining outpost.[1]

Rion and Spark returned to the complex and inserted the key into the terminal, prompting the Precept to reveal himself. The Precept revealed that he had brought Rion to Erebus VII to test her with the Eiyaa-Mahtuhaa being a part of the judgement. The Precept scanned Spark and Rion and read the results that her geas gave him. Judging them worthy, the Precept placed the coordinates and access permissions to Bastion for the pair only into the key and returned it to them.[3]
