The Campos Wilderness District is an area of the human colony world Gao.[1]

An earthquake shook part of the Montero region in the Campos Wilderness District and leveled two villages in 2553. People coming from the Montero Cave System would also be cured of their lifelong ailments. Soon after, a UNSC force, the 717th Xeno-Materials Exploitation Battalion would be deployed and occupied the region.[1] In reality, the UNSC were there to acquire the Forerunner ancilla Intrepid Eye in the caves.[2] The UNSC's presence there was causing tensions with locals[1] and the Gao Republic's President Arlo Casille would quickly create a plan to bring the Keepers of the One Freedom to the region to instigate conflict with the 717th.[3] The ensuing events would lead to the village of Wendosa becoming a warzone[4] and a large portion of the Montero region being destroyed by a HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon.[5]
