Halogen was a complete conversion mod of Command and Conquer: Generals being created by Slipstream Productions in an attempt to create a Real-Time Strategy version of Halo. Microsoft had given the cease and desist order to Slipstream Productions, and has since been canceled. Many fans were disappointed, especially after learning the progress was as far as a Beta.[citation needed]
Asylum
After Halogen was shut down, with less than 20% of work remaining, rather than abandon the work, Slipstream Productions has decided to modify some of the content in Halogen to fit a new original sci-fi universe called "Asylum", created by one of their own. Work has already begun, and it is being based on Command & Conquer 3's SAGE engine. Instead of taking place within the Halo universe, it creates a completely new and original science fiction universe.
Halogen and Halo Wars
Rumor had it that Halo Wars was produced directly because of fans' extremely positive reaction to Halogen and the negative response to the cancellation of the project. Halo Wars was announced shortly after Halogen was cancelled, and it was speculated that Halo Wars was designed to feed off of the anticipation Halogen carried. It was later revealed that the reverse was actually true; In the email to SSP from Microsoft, they revealed that the reason they didn't want a free Halo RTS being circulated around the Internet was that they were going to announce a real RTS based on Halo at X06.
