"Sadie, I know I've been busy, and we don't always have time to talk. But sweetheart...you make me very, very proud."
— Dr. Endesha to Sadie after she makes suggestions to help track the Covenant.

Doctor Daniel Endesha was a scientist and a resident of New Mombasa. He was largely responsible for the management of the city's Superintendent AI.

Biography

Daniel Endesha was the father of Sadie Endesha. When Sadie was a child, he programmed Vergil, a subroutine of the Superintendent, to take care of her.

During the Battle of Mombasa on October 20th, 2552, Endesha was inside the Superintendent's data center, where he observed several Covenant Huragok free one of their companions, which then started fixing the Superintendent. He was killed when the corrupt Commissioner Kinsler of the New Mombasa Police Department had the data center's fire extinguishing systems activated, flooding the facility with deadly argon.[1] His body was later found by a corrupt cop sent to check on his status and the Rookie. Upon seeing Endesha's body, the cop attempted to kill the Rookie to eliminate all witnesses only to be killed in self-defense by the ODST.[2]

In the years following the war, the Huragok Quick to Adjust, merged with Endesha's Vergil subroutine, retained the protective instincts towards Sadie that Endesha had programed into Vergil. As a result, Sadie became his handler. While working with Alpha-Nine during the Created conflict, Sadie displayed an understanding of AIs that came both from her own studies and what she learned from her father. After the Battle of Cassidy III, Quick to Adjust told Sadie that her father would be proud of her as was the Huragok when Sadie started questioning herself.[3][4]

Trivia

  • Dr. Endesha is voiced by Hakeem Kae-Kazim,[5] who also provided the voice of Jorge-052, Noble Team's heavy weapons specialist, in Halo: Reach.[6]
  • His body can be found by obtaining twenty-nine audio logs and by following the lone NMPD officer through the level Data Hive. The officer will eventually turn hostile, forcing the Rookie to kill him. The final audio log can be found on the wall right next to the doctor's body.
  • His model is the same as those of the Voi factory workers seen on the level The Storm in Halo 3.
  • At first glance, it appears that his middle finger and his ring finger have been frozen and have broken off, but upon further inspection it appears that his fingers have just disappeared under the argon.
