Apogee Station

Apogee Station was the primary settlement on the human Outer Colony of Meridian following Liang-Dortmund Corporation's recolonization of the moon.[1] A vast Forerunner structure was located under the surface of Apogee Station.[2] Apogee Station was heavily damaged in 2558 after the activation of a Guardian on Meridian.[3]

History[edit]

Following the glassing of Meridian during the Covenant's conquest of the planet in 2552, the Liang-Dortmund Corporation established several outposts on the now-glassed planetary surface to act as bases from which mining operations could be conducted. A large underground mining site was established at Apogee itself, which eventually dug its way into a buried Forerunner complex far below the surface of the planet. The so-called "anomaly at Apogee Station" was later reported Governor Sloan by Matt Riley, with Andrew Thivyanathan attempting to break into the structure manually in the hopes of a sizeable bonus from Liang-Dortmund.[4]

Created uprising[edit]

Main articles: Battle of Meridian (2558), Created uprising

In October 2558, Apogee Station came under attack by Promethean forces under the control of Cortana. Shortly after the attack began, a Winter-class prowler ONI Acrisius stolen by Blue Team landed at Apogee Station, and Blue Team made their way inside the mines underneath the settlement.[1] While he played the fool during the attack, planetary Governor Sloan was aware of the attack and elected not to inform the colonists at Apogee - something he later expressed regret for when facing his own death.[5]

Shortly after Blue Team's arrival, Fireteam Osiris also came to Meridian searching for Blue Team in accordance with the STOLEN GAUNTLET protocol. While attempting to find information on Blue Team's whereabouts in Meridian Station, one of the miners accidentally disclosed Blue Team's sighting at Apogee while dismissing the United Nations Space Command presence on the planet. Once they informed Sloan of this development, Sloan provided two Corp Pelicans with which Osiris could use to travel to Apogee.[1]

Osiris and a team of armed miners arrived at Apogee Station and began to fight off the Promethean attackers, stumbling upon Blue Team's landed ship in the process. As they progressed into the mines under Apogee Station, they stumbled into the underground Forerunner structure and eventually encountered Blue Team at the site of a buried Guardian Custode. The two teams had a brief squabble before the Guardian activated and took Blue Team with it, leaving Osiris to evacuate offworld via conventional methods.[2]

Following the defeat of the Created in late 2559, Apogee station remained abandoned. While walking the planet embodied in a Promethean Knight shell, High Auxiliary Sloan briefly gave consideration to Apogee and the several other abandoned stations littering Meridian's surface.[5]
