It housed a small civilian population, and was home to a variety of the Office of Naval Intelligence's research and development projects for prototype weapons, including the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I Prototype Armor Defense System.[1]
The colony was attacked by the Covenant sometime between 2535 and 2552, particularly due to their interest in the weapons programs on the planet.[1] During the battle, the planet's civilians were evacuated while Marines from the UNSC Corps of Engineers made a last stand against Covenant forces. The UNSC destroyer The Heart of Midlothian was en route to the planet to secure prototype weapons from Weapons Research Facility T12A before it was attacked. All Covenant forces perished in the attack.[2][3]
Algolis' ultimate fate is unknown, as it was not glassed during the battle. However, assuming that the entire human presence evacuated in the aftermath of the battle, the planet may have been spared from total destruction.
