- Troy Denning began work on Halo: Shadows of Reach in 2019.[2] In the first draft of the novel in the first chapter, Troy Denning had Kelly-087 listening to the song Killer Queen,[3] however it was removed before he sent in the draft due to copyright infringement fears.[4]
- The cover art was illustrated by Chris McGrath,[1][5] who also illustrated the earlier cover of Halo: Silent Storm.[6] The composition of the artwork echoes the original release cover art of Halo: The Fall of Reach.
