The UNSC Diadochi (AE-830) was an ammunition ship commissioned by the UNSC Navy. During the Human-Covenant War, it crashed on a remote world which would come to be known as Partition.[2]
Service history[edit]
Crash on Partition[edit]
During the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC Diadochi experienced engine failure during a slipspace jump, violently shunting the ship from slipspace and putting it on a crash course with a remote, previously-undetected planet. The ship entered free-fall and was rapidly approaching the planet's surface, but the crew managed to right the Diadochi's trajectory before impact. While the crash was still devastating, the survivors managed to pull together some of the ship's debris, constructing a shelter and salvaging provisions. Here, the crew assembled a communications beacon which relayed their signal for years before anyone responded. When the UNSC eventually arrived with rescue units, the crew members had already developed a healthy, thriving community among the crash site.[2][3]
The planet was eventually named Partition as a nod to Earth's historical Diadochi conflicts and, by extension, the UNSC Diadochi itself.[2] Partition is considered to have been officially colonized in 2543,[1] but it is unclear if this date represents when the crew of the Diadochi established their colony, or if it aligns with a later event such as the date of their rescue.
Post-war[edit]
Circa February 2558, the UNSC Infinity's SPARTAN-IV complement used a recreation of the Diadochi's crash site in their War Games exercises.[3]
Trivia[edit]
- The ship was named after the Diadochi, the name given to the rival relatives and friends of Alexander the Great. After his death, the Wars of the Diadochi were fought for control of his empire over some forty years.
- The Diadochi's crash site and the surrounding makeshift structures are the setting of the Halo 4 multiplayer map Exile.
