Objective?[edit]

This article isn't objective enough and many people might find it offfensive. Many sentances makes it clear that this religion is false, I didn't see anything like that on Wikipedias page on Christianity or Islam etc. I demand that you change it now! Baryon15 11:23, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

We are here to present information on Halo. I don't know about anyone else here, but I don't give a damn how "objective" (politically correct) the friggin' information is. We are not Wikipedia. You find it offensive, you will go somewhere else. No one put a gun to your head and told you to read this page. 14:10, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Well if you have any covenant friends, tell them not to read this page.

Also, the Great Journey is a false religion and ITS A VIDEO GAME!--Kre 'Nunumee 17:04, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

I know these discussions were years ago, but reading this I think that it's not objective enough: there are sections that read less like an encyclopedia and more like a dramatic retelling. It's cool, granted, but I feel like it doesn't meet the standards for the wiki's style of writing. Stuff like "Then, the unthinkable happened"; referring to the Halos as "sacred rings" outside quotation marks; saying "The Flood, or 'The Parasite' as referred to by members of the Covenant, are an unholy, virulent species" etc. Should this be changed or is there a purpose to it? -- 126 Joyous Testimony 22:09, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

You're absolutely right, those parts should be altered to be more neutral. Even if this is a Covenant-focused article it shouldn't read like it's written from Covenant POV. --Jugus (talk) 00:40, 29 March 2017 (EDT)

Forerunner great journey; truth in terminals?[edit]

As I was reading through the terminal texts, I had a feeling that the "Great Journey" that was referred to by the forerunners was not the activation of the Halos, but rather the repopulation of all the planets in the Galaxy with the lifeforms preserved on the Ark.

Was that not what the Librarian was doing? Indexing and archiving all lifeforms in the Galaxy in order to reseed them once the flood was neutralized? Am I the only one who interpreted the Great Journey in this way?

Covenant Religion?[edit]

Why exactly was the page moved to "Covenant Religion"? The title "Great Journey" is totally canon, isn't it? - JEA13 [iTalk] 13:59, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

The "Great Journey" is what they're trying to achieve, not the name of their religion.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 14:19, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Post Schism[edit]

Would someone mind writing something about this religion in the Covenant remnant? I don't really feel like I personally have enough information to start this. Maybe someone else would be better informed and more able start this? Weeping Angel (talk) 13:00, 21 June 2013 (EDT)

The Path[edit]

Since Halo 2 the Covenant have been referring to something called "the Path" (usually in the context of "walking the Path"). It hasn't been quite clear if this is an aspect of their religion (the spiritual path toward the Great Journey) or what they call the religion itself, but Broken Circle seems to indicate it's both:

"This will bring confirmation," Mken whispered. "This will bring many to the Path. Those who see it will believe." (p 124)

"We all serve the Path together, according to our stations." (p 223)

Many still regard the Forerunners as holy and hold to some form of the Path... (p 304)

The phrase "The Path to the Great Journey" also appears a few times, though "the Path" is more oft-used and concise. I kind of like the current page title because of its descriptiveness ("the Path" is much more ambiguous) though. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 00:58, 20 November 2014 (EST)

I don't know if real world religions sometimes use "the Path" too, but I could see it simply as a way to describe their set of doctrines, the capital letter being something common in religion when referring to something important. Whether the page should be renamed or not, I don't know, but the article's introduction may have to precise that it's a common term used by the Covenant. For example, something like: "The Covenant religion is a set of doctrines and beliefs, often referred to as the Path, which blah blah blah". Imrane-117 (talk) 02:23, 20 November 2014 (EST)
I was considering something similar. "The Path" is much more nondescriptive as an article title than the current one. As for it being a way to describe their set of doctrines... that's essentially another way of saying it's what they call their religion. This is particularly apparent, I thought, by the last of the three above quotes. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:37, 20 November 2014 (EST)

"Creatures of the Covenant, the Path is broad and we shall walk it side by side."
— Prophet of Truth
I don't know about it being an official or unofficial name for their religion, any more than calling Jesus "the Light and the Way" makes that an unofficial name for Christianity, especially since the Covenant seem to have no separation between religion, government and culture. My suggestion is to note that devotees of the Covenant refer to its teachings as "the Path," but to keep the article name we currently have. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 06:13, 20 November 2014 (EST)
I agree about keeping the page title as it is. Mainly it just stuck out to me how one of the Elites, post-Schism, casually mentions that there were some who held on to "some form of the Path" after himself forsaking the religion. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:08, 20 November 2014 (EST)

Great Journey[edit]

I believe the Great Journey deserves its own page. Not only is it a central concept in the Covenant religion, but we should also cover its significance to the Forerunners in regards to their exile (which we've known about since the Halo 3 terminals). --Jugus (talk) 03:01, 10 October 2016 (EDT)

Agreed, I thought we actually had a page on that until I read this. Alertfiend - Warning, my comments may appear passive aggressive. (Converse) 06:03, 10 October 2016 (EDT)

| I agree. The same goes for the concept of the Reclamation. This is somewhere Halo Wiki is actually ahead of us, sadly.c-Japeth555

Imps?[edit]

Where, exactly, is it stated that ODST are referred to as "imps" by the Covenant? The Ragin Pagan (talk) 00:46, 28 October 2018 (EDT)

The whole Demon lines are not in ODST and is replaced with lines with Imp in it, its a small change you wouldnt notice normally, even I had to look out for it.-CIA391 (talk) 06:26, 28 October 2018 (EDT)
I'm really only seeing a single line, said when they kill you. Is this really enough to warrant inclusion in Covenant religious beliefs? The Ragin Pagan (talk) 00:30, 29 October 2018 (EDT)
I have heard Grunts and Brutes use it. We dont particularly have all the random enemy dialogue from ODST up as we would like.-CIA391 (talk) 06:30, 29 October 2018 (EDT)
