Progression of the Ages

The Progression of the Ages is a ceremony performed by any devout Jiralhanae follower of the Great Journey before a meal or important undertaking, where they go through seven rings in a hall that represent the seven ages of the Covenant in the order they initially happened in the Covenant Battle Calendar. According to Maccabeus, it was seven rings for the seven ages, and to help them remember Halo and its divine light.[1]

Based on Maccabeus' clan on the Rapid Conversion, the hall had a stone floor mosaic that was dominated by seven rings around it, with a simplified version of a Forerunner symbol in the centre of each one. Each ring had a stones associated with it; shards of obsidian, iron, jade, geodes, opal, and other stones, with the final ring being Forerunner alloy that was donated by the San'Shyuum.[1]
Performance[edit]
Based on Maccabeus' clan on the Rapid Conversion, the leader of the group steps through rings one by one calling the name of the respective age a ring is associated with, such as "Abandonment" being a Age of Abandonment, with the congregation responding to the call with a response to match.[1]

In 2525, Chieftain Maccabeus performed the Progression of the Ages prior to eating the Thorn Beast on Rapid Conversion, to give thanks for the ship's safe jump.[1]
