Keyes' magnum[Note 1] is a custom M6 series pistol belonging to UNSC Captain Jacob Keyes.[1]

Design details[edit]
Keyes' pistol[Note 2] is a custom M6 series pistol belonging to UNSC Captain Jacob Keyes.[1] It has a dark metal with gold filigree and a wood-inlay grip. Inscribed in gold were "UNSC Meriwether Lewis 2531" on the KFA-2 x2, as well as "UNSC" on the side of the slide with three gold stripes, broken by a five-pointed star, running the length of the slide. The rear sights were gold, as was the ejector port, magazine catch, and forward edge of the receiver where the barrel emerged. A wood inlay, with a golden representation of the UNSC "eagle, globe and banner" as a roundel, was on mounted on either side of the grip.[1]

After the UNSC Pillar of Autumn made its escape from Reach during the final hours of the Fall of Reach, pursued by twelve Covenant ships, and its arrival the following month at Installation 04, Captain Jacob Keyes ordered SPARTAN-II John-117 woken from his cryo chamber to help defend the Autumn from Covenant boarders. Upon his arrival on the bridge, Keyes briefed John-117 on the situation and ordered him to take Cortana with him and to protect her from the Covenant, and made clear his intent to crash-land the Autumn on Alpha Halo. Before he departed, Keyes grabbed his M6D and told John that, ideally, they would rendezvous after the landing but, in case they didn't, Keyes entrusted him with the pistol and told John to make sure his daughter, Miranda, got it.[1]
John-117 carried the pistol with him, stowed on the rear waistband of his MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark V armor, throughout his journey on Installation 04. When he rescued Keyes from the Truth and Reconciliation, he offered to return it to the Captain, but Keyes instructed him to keep it.[2]
After causing a wildcat destabilization of the Autumn's fusion reactors in an attempt to destroy the ring, and ultimately fighting his way to Launch Bay 7, John boarded the last GA-TL1 Longsword Knife 12 on the ship with Flood approaching. As he boarded, he set his MA5B assault rifle next to his seat while he prepared to launch, and a Flood tank form jumped onto the Longsword. In the ensuing struggle, John attempted and failed to reach for his fallen rifle; instead he grabbed the pistol off his armor and discharged it into the "face" of the tank form, killing it.[3]
