Knife 12
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Knife 12 (K-12) was the callsign for a GA-TL1 Longsword fighter attached to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn in 2552. Its assigned pilots were Captain Thrace and Lieutenant Commander Agathon, who served as the ship's naval flight officer and weapons officer, respectively.[1]
Service history[edit]
Knife 12 was one of five Longsword fighters attached to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn when the ship escaped from the Fall of Reach in August 30, 2552. When the ship arrived at Installation 04 on September 19, Knife 12's crew was placed in rest cycle. As such, the Longsword did not participate in the battle against the Covenant forces from the Fleet of Particular Justice. Instead, Knife 12 was docked in the Autumn's Launch Bay 7 to rearm its weapons.[1] Knife 12 ultimately did not deploy from the Autumn, which then crashed-landed on the ring.[2]
Knife 12 remained in Launch Bay 7 inside the wreckage of the Autumn during the Battle of Installation 04, until John-117 returned to detonate the ship, and by extension, destroy the ring. The Spartan escaped the ring's destruction aboard Knife 12.[2] He, along with Cortana, would then remain in Installation 04's wreckage, before locating a Pelican with survivors from the ring, including Sergeant Johnson, while avoiding exposure from the Covenant fleet still at the ring.[3] Once regrouped, the survivors would then plan to steal the fleet's flagship, the Ascendant Justice, to leave the system, and would successfully use the Longsword to crash-land into the ship's hanger bay, killing most of the hanger crew with the fighter's guns.[4][5] The fighter stayed on the Ascendant Justice when it exited the system. The UNSC survivors later stripped the Longsword's air scrubbers and COM system for a Covenant dropship that Polaski had taken over.[6] It was presumably destroyed by the detonation of the Ascendant Justice during Operation: FIRST STRIKE, though this is unconfirmed.
Production notes[edit]
- Knife 12 first appeared in Halo: Combat Evolved, albeit without a callsign for identification. Its designation and the identity of its original pilots were revealed in Halo: Campaign Evolved on display screens in the bridge of the Autumn. The names of the pilots are references to the 2004 Battlestar Galactica characters Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (portrayed by Katee Sackhoff, who provided marine voice lines in Halo 3) and Karl "Helo" Agathon.
- As with all Longswords depicted in Halo: Combat Evolved and its adaptations, Knife 12's model has varied across its in-game depictions. In Halo: Combat Evolved, it is a C709 Longsword. In Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, it reuses the Halo 3 C712 Longsword model. In Halo: Campaign Evolved, it uses an unidentified Longsword variant that has a canopy which can be opened and closed—a feature that is notably absent from both the C709 and C712 variants.
