Julien Donney was a contact worker for Imbrium Machine Complex. While working on mining LV-31, he and his crew unintentionally released Flood kept within a Forerunner ship buried in the asteroid, resulting in Julien getting infected.

Biography[edit]

Near the end of the Human-Covenant War, Julien had worked for the UNSC Marine Corps. But after four years, he wanted to get back into working in the civilian sector for some more autonomy in his life now that the Covenant was not as big of a threat as they were and signed a Survey & Securities contract with Imbrium Machine Complex.[1]

Prior to October 4, 2556,[2] Julien would be among a mining crew on Elvie, a habitat network on the planetoid of LV-31 in the Marcey system, tasked with mining resources from LV-31 and the surrounding asteroids needed to help rebuild the UNSC Home Fleet after it had been decimated in an attack the prior year. Working with Abe and Mox, they were to unearth a Forerunner starship, which Julien knew meant they would be paid very well for it.[1]

Arriving at Site 22, after listing to Errant Vee which he hoped to see them play live after getting paid, he, Abe and Mox met with the rest of the mining crew as they worked on unearthing the ship. Once they had cut their way in, Julien, Abe, Beck and Arti move through the cave mouth and enter the ship. At first, Julien thought they should wait as Mox ordered a clearance sweep of the ship's interior, but Mox asked him if he wanted the the payday he wanted instead of handing the job over to the forces of the UNSC Saturn overseeing the operation.[1]

However, their excavation would accidentally unleash a horde of Flood that had been dormant within the ship. Julien tried to compose himself as they were attacked, his military training allowing him to survive the initial moments of the attack, but he began questioning whether or not he wanted to survive the longer it went on. His memories would begin to get scrambled as he watched forces dispatched from the Saturn and torching indiscriminately in an effort to contain the Flood. When he saw the Spartans of Fireteam Leviathan alongside them, he realized the direness of the situation but remained hopeful that they could escape the Nightmare. But that hope quickly faded when he watched as one of the Spartans was infected; attacking those it would have protected before turning its attention to him.[1]

Julien would be transformed into Flood combat form and became overcome with a need to be free and to unite others. He sifted through the dead to find others to infect, eventually finding Abe who he started to infect as the Saturn unleashed a barrage of Shiva-class nuclear missiles to eradicate the Flood. However, the infected Julien, alongside other Flood, would board a Condor that had been deployed to Site 22 and use it to escape the system via its Slipspace drive.[1] The Condor would exit Slipspace and crashland on the planet of Atropos, which would heavily damage the Flood on board. However, Kanto'Boreft, a member of the Governors of Contrition, would cultivate the Flood by sacrificing his followers one-by-one. Pieces of the Flood-infected Julien would be amalgamated into other Flood that were onboard, including a Flood-infected Spartan, with his Dog tag hanging off of it.[2]
