Second Base was a human Outer Colony of the Unified Earth Government (UEG).[2] In 2526, it became one of the first human colonies to fall to the Covenant.[1]

History[edit]

Human-Covenant war[edit]

Along with Green Hills, Second Base was one humanity's colonies glassed by the Covenant soon after their attack on Harvest at the start of the Human-Covenant War.[3] After the planet's glassing in 2526,[1] the United Nations Space Command had hoped to cover up their loss by explaining it away as a communications blackout caused by rebels. Eventually, they revealed that the UNSC was now fighting a xenocidal alien hegemony, and that Second Base and Green Hills had both been destroyed with the total loss of two million civilians between them.[3]

In January 2530, the Assembly conservatively estimated that it would take somewhere between one hundred and ten years to three hundred years to re-terraform Second Base after the Covenant glassed the world.[4]
