In Matchmaking, Mantises were incredibly strong enemies. Needless to say, due to the Mantis' strong melee feature, it was advisable to always disable it with a Plasma Pistol's EMP overcharge. However, there were always other enemy team players who were on foot defending the Mantis. It was advised to approach the Mantis from its back while its operator was focusing on their enemies in front of them. While it was being distracted, the could disable it with EMP. Take note that some players would immediately leave the Mantis upon being EMP'd, while some others would remain inside. Players could then sprint to its back and board it.

David and Goliath

20 Gamerscore icon taken from Xbox.com. Originally a single block colour (with the two circles both being white and the 'G' a transparent cutout), but modified by myself to display nicely on dark *and* light themes, and to be reminiscent of the pre-Xbox One gamerscore icon.

David and Goliath is a Halo 4 achievement added with the Crimson Map Pack. It was unlocked when the player boarded an enemy-controlled Mantis.[1] The achievement could only be unlocked on a Crimson map. Shatter is the only Crimson map which features Mantises.

Following the shutdown of Xbox 360 Halo online services on January 13, 2022, this achievement is no longer attainable.[2][3]

Method[edit]

In Matchmaking, Mantises were incredibly strong enemies. Needless to say, due to the Mantis' strong melee feature, it was advisable to always disable it with a Plasma Pistol's EMP overcharge. However, there were always other enemy team players who were on foot defending the Mantis. It was advised to approach the Mantis from its back while its operator was focusing on their enemies in front of them. While it was being distracted, the could disable it with EMP. Take note that some players would immediately leave the Mantis upon being EMP'd, while some others would remain inside. Players could then sprint to its back and board it.

Trivia[edit]

The name of the achievement is a reference to the biblical account of David and Goliath, which is included in the first Book of Samuel. The requirement of the achievement mirrors the account, in which David, a small young boy, defeated the giant Philistine warrior Goliath. In addition, the account originates from Book 1 of Samuel, chapter 17, which is most likely a reference to John-117's Spartan tag.
