Coral is a human planet. It will be the subject of Halo: Ghosts of Coral. In I Love Bees, it is said to be 42 lightyears from Earth, however, this may simply be a reference to 4orty2wo Entertainment, the company who produced I Love Bees.

As described in Conversations from the Universe, a mining operation uncovered the tip of a Forerunner installation. The miners used explosives to evaporate a depth of 30 meters, except for the tip of the installation, which wasn't even scorched. Archaeologists funded by ONI were able to dig out about eighty meters of the complex, which seems to be much bigger. The complex has been described as made from metalic crystal, symmetrical to a near-atomic scale, yet adorned with decorative artistic motifs.

According to I Love Bees, the planet has since been glassed by the Covenant. But while I Love Bees was before many plot twists in the story line, Coral may not have been glassed. According to Conversations from the Universe the planet held a Forerunner artifact; therefore, the Covenant would likely never glass the whole planet. This would make the planet just like Reach in terms of destruction.

Overview[edit]

Known residents[edit]

History[edit]

Coral mining operation[edit]

At an unknown date, a Coral mining operation uncovered the tip of a Forerunner installation. The miners used explosives to excavate a depth of 30 meters, uncovering the undamaged tip of the installation. An archaeological expedition overseen by the Office of Naval Intelligence was able to dig out about eighty meters of the complex, which seems to be even more expansive. The complex has been described as made from metallic crystal, symmetrical to a near-atomic scale, and adorned with decorative artistic motifs.[6]

Human-Covenant war[edit]

Though the details are unknown, Taylor H. Miles reports having taken part in an engagement in the Coral asteroid belt.[7]

In late September of 2552, it was reported that Coral had been attacked by the Covenant.[8]

Post-war[edit]

Following the Covenant War, Dr. William Iqbal suggested reexamining the items, data and images from sites on Coral with the new context gained from the discovery of the Halo Array.[9]

Trivia[edit]

  • The only known residents of Coral, Kamal and Sophia, speak about their families forbidding them to eat pork. In addition, Kamal's surname (Zaman) is common in peoples of Muslim descent. Therefore, it is quite possible that Coral had a significant Muslim population.
  • The Halo novel Halo: Ghosts of Onyx had a working title of "Ghosts of Coral". This led to a great deal of speculation about Coral and its background. However, it turned out to be unrelated.
